IF you're doing works only to keep your salvation, then YES, you are being selfish and trying to earn your way into heaven..

However, if you're doing works simply because God requires them in order to show His love to others through us, then NO, you're not trying to earn your way into heaven.

Good works are done to show God's love through us to others, and for no other purpose than that..

where do I find this teaching in the Bible?

What we are talking about is people who adding works to the gospel of christ, saying they are REQUIRED to MAINTAIN salvation.
Human dead faith, that comes from the imaginations of heart of natural man ,separated from God is considered desperately wicked as in who can know it. It is not the source of faith that comes from God towards us.

God is greater than our conscience .it only acts a personal judgement hall either accusing us or excusing us.

God is not served by human hands as a will . In that way he can if he so desires he can move a unbeliever to bring His good works the gospel of our salvation but the works are not of that seen, that does work towards us in us.

The parable in Mathew 7 of the worker of iniquity who Christ said he knew not comes to mind.. In that parable Christ did not deny the man performed the good works . Just that he denied Christ the one who can work, to form Christ in the other. Christ causes the growth. We can plant the seed and water it . Taking credit for the work that God could be working in us shows he was a worker of iniquity doing despite to the Spirit of grace, of Christ..

Because he offered his dead faith coming from his own heart, that cannot work to please God... toward God .Rather than the faith of Christ that works in us, towards us .

Faith is a two way street .

What we can offer is our new beliefs towards him as a result of his faith works in us towards us.... as the fruit of our lips thanking Him that we do not need to crucify him over and over every time in unbelief and we would offer our dead works of faith towards Him.

Better thing accompany salvation called actual redemption and not a kick start placing us to where Adam and Eve were when they did the pleasure of the will of the father lies, the god of this world. .

Pride comes before the fall each time we do deny Him working in us.he cannot deny His own self .

If he has begun the miraculous good work of His faith in us ,the salvation of our soul. He will finish it all the way until we receive the promise .Our new incorruptible bodies.

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith "toward God",Heb.6:1

According to the law of faith works cannot be separate from the one who executes it.. as a labor of His love.

The phrase repentance "from dead works, and of faith toward God." I would offer is understood "dead works", coming from dead faith . The words faith and work are inseparable. The faith as to the work must be distinguished as either the things of God or that of man ? God will not share the fruit of His works with the work he is forming.

Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. Heb 6:2

The dead, natural man do not resurrect their owns self by offering something from them as evidence of something? They can expect thorns and thistles, for a thorn in their side. Pricking their conscience is not redemption.... in respect to a new heart and new eternal spirit that could never die, as a living hope, that goes beyond human hope. .

Two groups of people described in Hebrews 6. Us and them, they or themselves

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Heb 6:6

It is impossible to do perfect anything, in a fallen, mortal world.. WE won't even be perfect until Jesus returns and perfects us..Your works are not perfect, neither are mine, nor anyone else's.. We can TRY to be perfect, but we will NOT achieve that status in THIS lifetime..

So shall I believe you or the Lord?

For His Word is to be believed.. and He actually teaches us to be perfect and Righteous.. So I will continue to believe Him and suggest you do the same.

Now let us not start to judge each other.. for we are to be doers of the Royal Law... and Christ will judge us at the set time.

Within the ten commandments. :) "Love thy neighbor as thyself"..

"Let your light shine before men". That light being spoken of, is God's love inside us, that we show to others by doing good works towards them.

where do I find this teaching in the Bible?

God Himself says that NO ONE is righteous.. He also says that ALL of us have sinned and fallen short of His glory (perfection).. If we were perfect, we would be immortal and incorruptible. But we aren't. SOOOO what does that tell you? It is impossible to be perfect (immortal) in a fallen (mortal) world..

So shall I believe you or the Lord?

For His Word is to be believed.. and He actually teaches us to be perfect and Righteous.. So I will continue to believe Him and suggest you do the same.

if you think that you are correct and we are wrong, then why will you not give a straightforward answer to the yes or no question that e.g. asked you earlier?? do you not think your answer will hold up?

it is much more creditable to actually engage in real conversation instead of just throwing out broad, vague talking points, and then not answering questions.

P.s Eg.. take not my retreats as running away.. I value Peace and Truth more than arguing to the point one may sin... there is a thin line between sharing and arguing to be right.. for it the intent is wrong then silence is golden.
You made an accusation against me, Either prove your case. Or do not ever again say I am saying you teach things you are not. If you can not back your words. Then do not say them.

If i share this:

Matthew 5

3Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Should I believe.. knowing all things are possible with GOD? Or state that is impossible.. i harden my heart by not believing... and the Holy Spirit is the seal until the mortal puts on the immortal..

GOD requires a willing heart...

You see my belief is that GOD is right to begin and end with.. which of us represent His Truth He knows.. so if you essentially want to be right.. you are out to prove yourself right.. enjoy yourself with that.
Sorry wrong answer. You claimed I said you beliv4e something you do not. Back your words.

Do you believe we have to work to maintain salvation or not.

Say yes if you believe it. (If you do why are you afraid to stand by your belief?)

or say no to prove me wrong. It is that simple.

At the Judgment, Christ won't be looking for your profession of faith, he will be looking for the evidence of your faith.
He knows where to find his faith that he works in us as a result of His righteous work.

It’s the evidence of his faith that works in us that we are to concern ourselves with.

The Jews that required a sign before they would commit faith turned that upside as if the work he performs in us comes from the clay... taking way the understanding of the Potter who forms Christ( the Holy Spirit) in the clay. (not of our coming from the clay.)

We have that power in us but would never assume it could be of us.

2Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

He already knows who he has given his faith to as an eternal gift and who he has that has not had that kind of mercy .

Their names were written in the Lamb’s of God book of eternal life. He was slain from the very foundation of the world.

He is the confidence that gives us the evidence his is working in us to both will and do his good pleasure (imputed righteousness).as new creatures who have been given a new spirit that will never die.

They alone will not be found with any righteousness of their own self. They alone will not come into judgment .(No condemnation to new creatures) They will not be tried twice as double jeopardy. They have in effect passed from eternal damnation to eternal life (the new)

They alone agree with His word in so much that he alone is the “just one” who by a work of His faith finished all the work required for our salvation as the one justifier.

Romans 3:26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Having confidence in one’s own flesh by a dead work of their own dead faith only shows they have no confidence in Christ that alone comes from Him .That simply makes the faith of God in respect to His labor of Love without effect .

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

So then if we are to Keep the second like it .. we are to surely Keep the Greatest which is also found in the 10 Commandments as taught in the New Testament.. hence GOD stating He would make a New Covenant not like the one they broke.. but where He would put His Law on our hearts and in our mind... what do we have? The Royal Law that we are to be doers of through our New Spirit received through Faith in Christ which is Christ within guiding and comforting us reminding us of all Truth.

Actually he requires a new spirit that will never die according to a newly created heart .Its then that we can believe him not seen and not our own-selves as if we were the source of His work of faith towards us..

The old heart as in natural man can love his neighbor till the cows come in. Just as the man in the parable of Mathew 7 who Christ called a worker of inquity.

Christ never knew him who did love his neighbor ( have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?) Christ never denied he did the works. Christ denied he was not the author of them .And is why he called him: "a worker of iniquity"...doing, working to despite the Spirit of grace.

Can't have a willing heart if God does not work in us to both will and perform his good pleasure( imputed righteousness)

My eyes were opened by GOD and I don't dispute we all have sinned and fallen short of His Glory.. for we are justified freely by His Grace through believing in His Son. No good works or anything other than Faith can Redeem us..

If we are saved by Grace through Faith unto good works.. then what good works are we to have? They can only come from the True Vine our branch is grafted to... and we receive nourishment by believing... as in Hear and do.. Faith perfected by works.. Christ's works that GOD ordained for us..

Ephesians 5:1 says that we are to be imitators of God as dearly beloved children. THAT is what God means by "be perfect". We are to try and imitate HIS perfectness.. The bible says to be imitators of Christ, so that we can reflect His perfection in our lives.

For any of us to be perfect, our pride must take a hike, as James 3:2 and Matthew 19:21 points out. When we are prideful, we are faulty. If we have pride of our possessions, or pride of our attitudes, or pride of ANYTHING, then we are faulty and we are not imitating Christ..

It was her nasty, rude, prideful attitude towards everyone here that got her banned.. And I'm not laughing at her OR you. I'm just saying you remind me of her in the way that you refuse to believe that works aren't to be done in order to keep salvation..

And you are showing GOD's love by laughing at a lady that was banned.. not called for at all.
