I am not exaggerating. The last time we went to the movies, it was a drive-in. (It's still there in Vineland, NJ. We simply can no longer go, because the drive is beyond what we can handle.) I can't remember if these movies came as a double-feature, or if I'm remembering our last two trips, but one was the first Star Wars animated movie and the other was set in the sands of North Africa somewhere long ago. I'm thinking the protagonist's name was Aladdin or Alibaba, but it was live-action, (not animated) and a lot of running away or to a fight.
That's all I can remember. I think we went some time in the last decade.
The last time we saw most of the Oscar nominated movies was back when On Golden Pond was nominated. (I don't remember if it won.) Back in those days, most of the nominated movies were worth seeing. Nowadays, it seems most of the nominations are based on how much an actor was willing to ruin his/her body to play a part, (starving, over eating, or willing to look awful without make up), or how indoctrinating the movie is to the Hollywood agenda. (If I hear "more than a song," "more than a movie," "empowering," or "diverse" one more time I think I'm going to vomit.)
I used to love going to the drive-in in my younger years when I was dating. Brings back many memories, some of them which might be considered despicable.

Guess Im too late to the game. But Dunkirk and Darkest hour were hands down the best movies this year.
I have yet to see Darkest Hour , but Dunkirk is fantastic. One of my favorites as well. A very different war (possibly anti-war) film.
It gave me a lot to think about and tap into with all the possible themes and symbols. I'd love to buy Nolan a cup of coffee and run my film theories by him. See how right I am. It was definitely his finest film.

Yeah, Dunkirk's my #1, but I have yet to see a few 2017 films that could beat it.
The Shape of Water doesn't seem to be worth the time. That one clip they showed for best supporting actor made me laugh at how goofy it seemed. My thought was "well, that's a film we'll forget in a decade."
Had no idea what it was or any inkling it would take the top prize.

I was actually going to make a comment here about the most recent movie that Ive seen being rouge one. I really liked it though, dunno if it won an award cuz I dont keep up with such junk, but I thought it was a great film.
Havent seen the last jedi yet, really want to though. I can somewhat sympathize with the people who complain about the new star wars films, but i Liked rouge one and force awakens. One thing I can agree on though, I totally think Rey is not the most interesting character ever. Shes pretty dry.
Heres to hoping last jedi is better for her : p
It's okay. I think people are unrealistic to expect any round of Star Wars to be as good as the first three.

I don't blame Disney. Aside from bizarre casting and writing choices, the films have been as good as one can really expect.

I stopped watching when Harrison Ford was no longer attractive

Dunkirk was on the list? Oo, oo! I saw that movie. (Streaming.) I love the story, loved the stories, but absolutely hated the out-of-chronological-orderness about it.
When did that become a thing? Mishmash a multiple-POV story so much, no one knows what happened when unless they can remember every little moment. By doing that, they downplay the actual story. (Also the reason I gave up my subscription to the Saturday Evening Post.)
But something I learned after I saw it. Harry Whatshisname from One Direction was in it. (I am so not up on modern culture. lol) Who was he?

I think it was popularized with Pulp Fiction in the 90's. It's an overrated film as well. Also, pretty dark. Nobody should watch it until they are about 90 or so.
Non-linear writing can be very good if it's done smoothly.
The trouble is very few people have the skill to pull it off. Even truly great writers.

It was maddening reading The Mists of Avalon for that reason
