Hopefully this won't sound too dichotomous, but I wholeheartedly agree with BOTH Dino and Lynx's posts, and think they probably expressed some of the things I was trying to say in a way better than I wound up saying them.
Three points for using dichotomous. Maybe you ARE a nerd after all. You've been insisting on your nerd credentials for years now.

Just don't expect me to be the type of nerd who's actually smart. My vocabulary doesn't extend all that far -- you'll find me using the same words over and over again -- and there are only a few "really big words" that I can remember, let alone attempt to use.

"Dichotomous" has always stuck with me because I can relate to it, and I love the idea of being two conflicting, or even opposing things at once.

Getting back to the OP. I think understood properly the phrase "God made men visual" should mean that men cannot control their physiological reactions to visual stimuli and that those reactions are probably much stronger than women's. It might also mean that men somehow mentally record / remember the world more as a series of visual snapshots than women do (not sure if that's something split along male female all that much or if it is related to other categories). I'm probably one of the least visual people around (seriously if you asked me to describe what one person in my family looks like I would struggle to do so) so this is speculation extrapolated from my experiences in talking about everyday things with people and wondering about them either being so attentive to detail or hung up on what things looked like.

And I think of the time I was with a couple of Christian guy friends at the beach and a gal in a bikini walks by while we're on the way back to the car and one of them muttered forgive me Lord. And that's the part that probably can't be helped and if I had been with a boyfriend or husband instead of just a couple of friends he probably would have had a similar reaction. Where things go wrong is when the guys decided to drive back the long way around the parking lot to see if they could catch another glimpse of the girl (and I don't remember if they did or not). I would say the challenge is you can't help liking what you see, but that doesn't mean that anyone should go out sightseeing to try to see more.

To broaden the idea a little bit, we talk about struggling with a particular sin but sometimes the truth is we've pretty much ceased to struggle and have passively decided we're going to do this even though we know we shouldn't. And so we make excuses that have roots that sound good or true, but have simply become an excuse to avoid change.

Your story makes me wonder, what exactly is the cross over point from looking to lusting? I’d say I have a healthy libido, but does that mean I need to wear a blindfold at the beach or avoid it all together? If I can appreciate God’s artwork, without debased thoughts, is that ok? Girls, you can’t tell me there aren’t some men who are easier to look at than others. Is it equally sinful if a girl does a double take? In all honesty, when I really think about it, I have to laugh at the uncontrollable attraction to organic baby food containers for some men.

I'm neither the OP nor a woman in general, but I'm gonna take a stab at explaining this. If I'm wrong Kim can correct my perception of her OP.

The problem is not that some men prefer choosing spouses based on physical beauty. If a guy wants a girl because he thinks she looks pretty (and if he thinks he has a good shot at getting her) more power to him.

The problem is not that some men look at porn. Porn IS a problem, but that is not what the complaint of this thread is about.

The problem is people try to justify it by saying "Oh well, men will be men. God made men visual." That doesn't excuse anything at all. God also made us with brains and sentience. God made us with the ability to be more than animals who blindly follow instincts.

The problem is when people try to use "God made men visual" to excuse men for being pervs. Also when they try to use it to justify denigrating women for not measuring up to their concept of physical beauty.
I see your point. Excusing such behaviour on the claim that "God made men visual" is exactly the same reasoning that people with distorted sexual desires use to justify their predilections and claim that they don't need to change. People forget the influence of the fall and blame the current state of things on God.

But dudes have pecks.
I was saying some men are infatuated with breasts. I called them organic baby food containers because that’s what they are. When you think about how sexualized breasts are it’s kind of funny, to me at least.

I think the point I was trying to make with the story (and I could be wrong) is that choosing to pursue (rather than involuntarily reacting to the stimulus of) an illegitimate pleasure is where things go wrong. So by all means go to the beach, but go because you want to enjoy swimming or suntanning or playing beach volleyball etc, not because you want to ogle scantily clad ladies (even if they're dressed like they're desperate to be ogled at).

And yes if a lady is going to the beach just to ogle guys in speedos then that's just as wrong.
