They didn't believe, nor did they even know of a Holy Spirit. They had been baptized into John's Baptism

Please read Acts 19

of course they knew of the Holy Spirit!

He is mentioned many many times in the Old Testament

'7',
oh my yes, darling,
may we all have our hope in His 'calling-riches-glory-inheritance -
as it is written:
'MATT. 25:34.
Then shall The King say unto them on His right hand,
Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit The Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

nobody would believe me

but my heart cries for this

Christians have short changed themselves so badly

and others have used...stolen...from God for personal gain

and still God holds back His hand, even while angels urge Him to justify Himself

they do not grasp what is ours in Christ...even as the word states they long to look into it all

8Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9now that you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who foretold the grace to come to you, searched and investigated carefully, 11trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

Wrong again, Roger.

I am saying:

When we first get saved, we are SEALED with the Holy Spirit.

AFTER being sealed with the Holy Spirit, we are BAPTIZED with the Holy Spirit which is the FIRST time we are FILLED with the Holy Spirit.

AFTER being baptized with the Holy Spirit which is the first time we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are to be CONTINUALLY FILLED with the Holy Spirit by reading, mediating, studying the scriptures, singing songs in our hearts to God, worshiping God in Spirit and in Truth, fellowshiping with other believers.....etc.....

Being FILLED with the Holy Spirit then becomes a daily choice, if we quench or grieve the Holy Spirit with our flesh then we end up backsliding.

We need to learn how to not neglect the Gift of the Holy Spirit, keep it stirred up so we can walk by the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
You are using incorrect terminology. We are indeed sealed but that requires the Holy Spirit to indwell us.

2Co 1:22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

There is no filling until after there is the indwelling.

Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

They did not recognize Christ and you expect they should have recognized the Spirit of God. That is what 1 Cor 13 is talking about in the looking through a glass darkly. Now we see what was hidden in the shadows from the OT.

At that moment they were saved and the Holy Spirit began indwelling them. John chapter 20. Well before the day of Pentecost when there was the promised filling with power for ministry. Acts clearly tells us that Pentecost was a filling not a baptism. It is made crystal clear in the original Greek.

Wrong. That's when they were SEALED. Yeshua/Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection and breathed on them and said Receive the Holy Spirit.

In Acts 2 was the outpouring of the Holy Spirit - they were baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit.

It is perfectly valid and if you were not hardened you would see it.

The Greek clearly shows you to be in error.

Jesus did in fact appear to His disciples and breathed the Holy Spirit upon them. This is the moment they were born again and sealed unto eternal life. What followed is clearly explained in Acts as a filling not a baptism because that occurred in John 20.

Acts is the full endowment of the Holy Spirit that the disciples might minster to all the people. Power to be witnesses and proclaim the gospel message.

There remains only one baptism of the Holy Spirit and it is a baptism unto eternal life. Many fillings of the Holy Spirit for power to be the witnesses for Christ we are called to be.

To clarify, Jesus did NOT need to be baptized
Hello there. I hope all is well with you and your family at this time. I just wanted to clarify something on this point alone. If I understand your perspective of why Jesus didn't need to be Baptized, I believe you are right. However, there is a greater reason why he had to specifically be immersed in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. Here it goes.

Back in Exodus, Moses was commanded to make a special "Anointment Oil" (note, the word Mashiach in Hebrew means anointed) for the High Priest (Aaron) and future Kings. This was a mandatory commandment for every High Priest and King. In the time of King Josiah, he knew that the 1st Temple would be destroyed by Babylon and so he hid it in a special place that King Solomon made. So the question is, how did Kings and High Priests get anointed if the Oil was gone? The Torah Scholars and Elders decided that an alternative would be a source of water, but what that comes down from a holy place. The water in Lake Capernaum is very special and in short, its water elevation levels are indicated when the Messiah will return. That water brings "life" through the Jordan Valley by the Jordan River and for centuries, provided the source of life and nutrient for the environment in such a desert. (If you go to Israel, you will see it is green a flush by the River).

Funny that Luke goes through the trouble to tell us John's lineage and he comes from Priests! Not only that, but he was an incarnation of Eliyahu HaNavi (Elijah the Prophet who never died). Throughout the Tanakh we are told of a messenger that MUST come before the Messiah and in this first coming, it was John the Baptist (Eliyahu). Therefore, he had the authority Biblically to anoint...the High Priest and King of Kings, Jesus! That is why the Bible goes to such great lengths to prove both their backgrounds and why Jesus himself told John that, yes John was fit and it was necessary for Jesus to be immersed in the Jordan River by John.

I hope you enjoy! God Bless!

You are assuming the apostles did not lay hands on these. The only scripture we have is that the baptism and the gifts came only through the two outpourings or through an Apostle's hands. Their existing does not show how they came into existence. We can only prove it was through an apostle's hands from scripture.
Are there any Scriptures that indicate that these are the only ways for the baptism and the gifts to materialize?

This is the bare bones record in Acts we have scripture to prove. Scripture only supports this much.

This happened with the Apostles. Go drink some gasoline if you think it's for you.
Dave, Your poison is worse than gasoline and it only entertains me you snake .. LOLOL

1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.[/QUOTE]

Why did Paul stop healing in the Epistles if the gifts did not end by then?

“Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.” (2 Timothy 4:20) (KJV 1900)

“Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.” (1 Timothy 5:23) (KJV 1900)

“Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; for I am as ye are: ye have not injured me at all. Ye know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first. And my temptation which was in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. Where is then the blessedness ye spake of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, ye would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.” (Galatians 4:12–15) (KJV 1900)

(alternate translation of the above passage) “you know that previously I preached the gospel to you because of a physical illness. You did not despise or reject me though my physical condition was a trial for you. On the contrary, you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself.” (Galatians 4:13–14)(HCSB)

“What happened to this sense of being blessed you had? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.” (Galatians 4:15)(HCSB)

“For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.” (Philippians 2:26–27) (KJV 1900)

Paul left Trophimus in Miletus when he was sick (II Tim 4:20), and Epaphroditus was sick to the point of death (Phil 2:27). Timothy was encouraged to use wine for his stomach ailments (1 Tim 5:23). God never removed Paul's thorn in the flesh (II Cor 12:1-10).

You're just throwing scriptures at us and not explaining what point you're trying to prove with scripture.....:rolleyes:
If tongues are for today, why don't all churches have them? Why do you need to learn how to speak in tongues if they were spontaneous in Acts?
