People will always justify their own beliefs. But there is an inesacapable truth that every true Christian is fully aware of. The Holy Spirit would NEVER contradict the plain and continuous words of Christ, such a thing is impossible
Christ plainly and continually laid down the neccessary belief in him for a person to have eternal life. He di not go into his nature, substance, or whether the Father preeexisted him at some point in time before time as we know it began
So anyone who in their heart will not accept someone as a Christian who simply believes Christ is the son of God and not God Himsaelf, anyone who adds to the condition Christ plainly and continually set down as to how a person must see him to have eternal life cannot be being led of the Holy Spirt, but the heart is deceitful
And if a person is not being led of the Holy Spirit they are speaking for themselves, and Christ was clear as to what that meant
Anyone speaking on his own does so to gain honour for himself, but anyone seeking the honour of the one who sent him is a man of truth and there is nothing false about him
John 7:18
If we wish to avoid being like the Pharisees of Jesus time we need to be reminded of Christ's own words
We must not seek the praise of man, but rather seek the praise of the only God
We must not be proud. The Pharisees were a proud people, and therefore could not accept Christ and the message he preached
