My brother used this term to apply to all the humdrum generic ocean fish he catches instead of something exciting and I think others do to...they are whitish and silverish and indeed the abundant small ones are something of a bane to most pier/beach fishermen I hear.

However, I think Mar09 was simply ASKING if the goldfish had been mentioned and not OFFICIALLY listing it, so I believe I must restrain THE SNAP.

I'm not sure exactly what snapping consists of in this context. Is it a reprimand, public censure or just a notification?

Hoki (a.k.a Blue Grenadier, blue hake, New Zealand whiptail, whiptail or whiptail hake)
It's a fish off the coast of Australia and NZ. It came to mind last night because it's one of the fish they used in the filet-o-fish at one point...it actually does have a slightly sweet taste and has almost no bones and has a really nice filet.
Due to constraints on fishing them though I think it's a composite now of some kind with another species of fish in Alaska that I'll add when I post again so as not to get snapped

It's no composite. I w*rk at a McDonald's and they are rectangles cut out of real, whole fillets. The box says it is whitefish now.
