In honor of the prettiest fish I ever rode upon. As well as to any other bubbleheads that rode a fish class boat. SSN 673 Flying Fish, fast attack tough Hooyah :)

Whiting. (White-ing)

My brother used this term to apply to all the humdrum generic ocean fish he catches instead of something exciting and I think others do to...they are whitish and silverish and indeed the abundant small ones are something of a bane to most pier/beach fishermen I hear.

the moray or the electric variety
Ooohhh!!!

I hate to be a shark in the thread, but Mem already mentioned Nemo:

However, because it's our good friend Tourist, I can't bring myself to give him a full SNAP!

Maybe just a snappy snip instead. :D
Effectively, I think an nonsnap is actually a snaught.

Has somebody mentioned goldfish?

Then another is freshwater Sardinella, locally called Tawilis.

Aye, goldfish was mentioned a while back. :)

Goldfish! 🐠🐟🐡
However, I think Mar09 was simply ASKING if the goldfish had been mentioned and not OFFICIALLY listing it, so I believe I must restrain THE SNAP.

(Actually, there have been so many cool people answering this thread, I can't really find it in my heart to snap anyone here.)

I can. I snapped at you earlier for calling goldfish when I had mentioned it before. :sneaky:

I'm not sure exactly what snapping consists of in this context. Is it a reprimand, public censure or just a notification?

Hoki (a.k.a Blue Grenadier, blue hake, New Zealand whiptail, whiptail or whiptail hake)

It's a fish off the coast of Australia and NZ. It came to mind last night because it's one of the fish they used in the filet-o-fish at one point...it actually does have a slightly sweet taste and has almost no bones and has a really nice filet.

Due to constraints on fishing them though I think it's a composite now of some kind with another species of fish in Alaska that I'll add when I post again so as not to get snapped :)

It's no composite. I w*rk at a McDonald's and they are rectangles cut out of real, whole fillets. The box says it is whitefish now.

Fish sticks in the grocery freezer though... Those are composite, made from minced pieces. All kinds of fish, all kinds of "pieces."

Your first mention was rather bland and quite forgettable, there is substantially more zest in Mii's mention, just sayin'

Arowana or Dragon Fish
