the soul is gone when that person dies...There is nothing immortal about the soul.
Your "is gone" refers to 'annihilation,' Correct? What Saith The Scripture?:

(1) "...Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour....And it came to pass,
as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name
Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin. And Rachel died, and
was buried..." (Genesis 35:16-19)

(2)
"And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by
the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and
was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments,
and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom."

= Their souls that departed, Correct?

(3) Before Jesus' Resurrection: He and the repentant thief, dying on crosses:
"And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when Thou comest into
Thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day
Shalt thou Be With Me in paradise." (Luke 23:42-43)
Their souls departed in death, Correct?

(4) After JESUS Resurrection (Soul Returned From paradise, And Re-united
With His Body), And His
Precious BLOOD "Opened Up HEAVEN!":
"And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls
of them that were slain for the Word of God, and for the testimony which
they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, Holy
and True, dost Thou not Judge and Avenge our blood on them that dwell
on the earth?" (Revelation 6:9-10)

Conscious, With their memories, present with The LORD JESUS CHRIST, Correct?

(5) Past and future, so, In the PRESENT Day, where do "members" of The
Body Of CHRIST go, When
our souls depart in death? From Paul, our apostle:

"Now He that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, Who
Also Hath Given unto us The Earnest of The Spirit. Therefore we are
always Confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body,
we are absent from The LORD: ( For we walk by faith, not by sight: )
We are Confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body,
and to be present With The LORD!" (2 Corinthians 5:5-8)
↓ ↑ ↓ ↑ ↓ ↑ ↓ ↑ ↓ ↑ ↓ ↑ ↓ ↑ ↓ ↑
absent soul that departed, Correct?
Paul further teaches: "For to me to live is Christ, and to die IS GAIN!"
(Philippians 1:21)

"For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to DEPART {soul},
And To Be WITH CHRIST; which IS FAR BETTER!" (Philippians 1:23)

our departed souls With CHRIST In HEAVEN?

{critics' NO CONFIDENCE sleep/UNconscious/cease to exist/annihilation
are NOT:
"GAIN, And FAR BETTER!"}, Correct?

I have often questioned this subject. I grew up believing the soul is eternal, but have had some very close friends that believe only those who are born again have immortal souls. There are different verses that have made me stop and think, like Matt 10:28

"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

And 1 Timothy 6:16, speaking of God,

"Who only hath immortality,"

But the view that the wicked person's soul is not immortal doesn't line up with Revelation 14:11

"And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name."

Anyone have any thoughts on what the other verses that seem to lend to the other view might mean?
Hello HopeinHim4ever,

I hope you are having a good new year.
I haven't read this thread since my previous post and thought that you might find this link below a blessing. It's a short video on this subject.

A Lifeform's Genome is its Soul. In other words, anything that has DNA has a Soul.
That's a pretty cool way of explaining the birds and the bees.
Reminds me of a song about the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees.

Because flowers and trees have DNA also. All plant life does.

@Researcher ~ are you saying plants have soul life?

Was there a moon up above in the song also?

let me tell ya 'bout the birds and dthe bees
and the flowers and the trees,
And the moon up above,
And a thing called love.
But when I look into your big brown eyes
it's so very plain to seee
It's time you learned about the facts of life,
Starting from A to Z...............it fades here.

Does the Bible shed any light on this?

I know God knew us from when we were 'knitted together ' in our mother's womb. That we are each loved by Him. But was that where we began our existence?
Hidden question: is is "Reincarnation" a real thing?? Biblically no.
We began when we were conceived.

So upon accepting Christ as Saviour, we live forever with Him. Or we go to the other place of cold and darkness away from God, called Hell. Which means we are eternal beings.
And therein lies the choice.
