Not some new threads, the vast majority of new threads are reviewed prior to going public. Only a handful of long term users threads bypass the review process.

As far as how long, anywhere from a couple of minutes to 10 or 12 hours depending on when one of us has time to log in and clear the que.

Should this thread not be in the 'User2User Tech Support' forum?

That would probably have to be reviewed first. That process could take a couple of minutes to 10 or 12 hours. At least that is my understanding.

dude seriously, you guys need to speed up the new thread approvals man. Like people just want to chat and if there is anything offensive that take it down. efficiency is important too. Ive got like 5 threads waiting for approval.

I might be wrong about this, but we only have one volunteer who does the approving, so he has to do so in between his very full real life.

I don't know what the qualifications are, but maybe you could volunteer to help with whatever the site needs to help the process along?

Threads didn't used to need approval but it became necessary, especially when some were writing threads that slandered other members.

I specifically remember one thread where someone tried to label another person as something particularly heinous because of a disagreement in other threads.

Fortunately it was caught and taken down very quickly.

I'm a member of different forums and NEVER have I've seen threads held up for approval. .usually you can report a thread and mods will remove them and the mods are all volunteers like you said and they have many but some related to a specific sub-forum.

@Oncefallen

Maybe he'll have a more thorough explanation than the one I have.

@Oncefallen, we appreciate all the time you donate here.

That is an exaggeration.

At the time that this was posted, you had 1 thread that was posted only 3 minutes before, 1 was posted at 11:15am, and one was posted at 10:46am.

I'm sure that not every forum site chooses to screen new threads or new users. The software that currently powers CC allows for it, and we choose to use it since it keeps tons of trolls, scammers, spammers, etc off the site. I hate to sound like a jerk, but we aren't going to change how we do things, so if it's that big of a deal to you, you can choose to not utilize our services.

They're choosing to keep the site free from the things Once mentioned above. And the users not having to endure those things.
As a long time user on this site, around before they had to give approval for threads, I saw many times when people joined the site to provoke and create chaos. People dropping expletives like crazy, verbally assaulting people left and right, posting inappropriate images or links, posting ads for other religions, etc..
Mind you there Are people that can be as young as 13 that join this site. So it's not just about protecting the adults, but the younger people as well.

As for mods, first you need someone comfortable with computers that can utilize the software to do a variety of things. Another important thing is finding people who keep calm when things get heated. And also don't have bias when moderating. There are lots of fiery topics and you don't want mods taking sides or misusing their position against people they disagree with.
I recall a mod that felt free to make personal attacks against people over disagreements. I know first hand. And others I heard from saw the same.
Quite frankly that second part eliminates Many on this site.
People also need to be here long enough to have built a trustworthy foundation and shown they can be trusted.
Eliminate all those people and it really narrows down the list. Then add people who ask to be mods, that's an automatic no. Or people who simply don't want to, even if offered.

Also if someone gets even a few hours to run wild on this site, when mods do show up to deal with it it's not one poster alone. They have to also go through people's reactions and responses and decide if any need to be removed. Or in some cases I've seen hours worth of posts deleted because it was too much to just clean up the problem parts.

Maybe other sites aren't as concerned about keeping trolls and others out. Which may speed things up, but, at least for here, it deteriorates the quality of the site.
And I have seen new users quit the site because someone was running wild and they didn't know if it was acceptable or not, especially if it went on for a while.
I agree with you it would be nice to not have to have new threads approved, but as someone that was around before that, I'm glad they do it this way now.

I've been to other forums where no approval of new threads is necessary. But this can create unintended consequences. For one, you have a lot of trolls posting endless threads about nonsense. Two, threads come and go quickly without much in-depth discussion. Before very many people have a chance to respond to one post, another one pops up and people seem to gravitate to the new ones. I think the approval process discourages people from posting anything that comes into their head. Existing threads stay active longer and get a more thorough discussion.

Honestly speaking reviewing is very necessary though overwhelming sometimes. All we need is patience just like in other groups and pages. Patience guys
