Would it be foolish to admit that in high school I didn't give in to the pressure of dating, kissing or sex because I wanted to be able to pet a unicorn?

Before people laugh too hard, there is mention of a unicorn in the Bible along side a talking donkey.

I think I stop believing after I learned that one of my friends was raped. Stolen innocence and it's not always the girls we have to protect.
Perhaps God used that idea of a unicorn to protect you. God used the imaginary unicorn with you just as He used the talking donkey with the Prophet? God works in mysterious ways.

I know what you mean by stolen innocence, but on a deeper level, in a somewhat different sense, none of us has had any innocence to steal since the fall. We all need cleansing.

When I think back to my childhood, teen years, I can't remember ever discussing sex with my parents. I don't think we even had the where do babies come from?, talk. I remember them talking us about it around grade 5, but not at home. I guess it's possible we never had a discussion about it. Maybe it was awful that I blocked it out.

I was brought up by my aunt, I am her carer now. She is 81.

She often says she didn't understand how babies were made until after the
birth of her 4 sons. Even now she will sometimes hear something on the TV
and ask me what it means. There are some things one should not have to explain
to an 81 year old with 4 grown up sons. :p

Kids can get married with parental consent at 16 and without it at 18.
But the parental consent thingy is now being phased out in various
parts of the country especially in Scotland.
I just looked it up. What I find interesting with these silly laws. in Indiana a Male my age can go have sex with a 16 year old female and it is ok. but if said male wanted to do it right and get married. parent has to consent. talk about things being backward.

Now I have to ask -- once the two of you were married, did you keep the friends? I think I'd be blushing way too much to keep the friends.

No, that was our biggest attraction. We both knew we just didn't want to be with anyone else.

OH.... you meant did we run with the same crowd. Yes we did. It seemed no problem to either of us... we even discussed those relations between the two of us now and then.

Peer pressure is a crock for this one. I don't eat chocolate because I'm being pushed into it. Chocolate is great, so I indulge. Same concept with sex. If it was peer pressure then all we have to do to raise the amount of people eating liver is to start teaching that there is a time and place for liver, but not yet for kids. And then remind them "everyone is doing it anyway." lol
I sort of agree with you and sort of don't.
peer pressure, from what I've experienced, isnt what creates sexual temptation so much as the whole dating cycle.
The pressure to constantly be with someone when combined with inexperience, stupidity, and just plain human nature is fairly dangerous.

Nah kids have innocence. Jesus said their angels look on the face of God daily and they are precious in the kingdom of heaven.

We just have to help them grow from babes to mature adults in Christ able to eat meat and discern between good and evil. After they have accepted Christ as their savior and been born again.

I don't like the water down Sunday school lessons most kids are taught. When I can I discuss the Bible stories with my kids, especially the parts people like to leave out....why it's left out and how it Makes some people uncomfortable.

Temptation? It depends on who you're around. I know my friends and old boyfriends believed in God but none of us practiced what we were supposed to. I suppose if I had been .more involved in Christian groups or heck even went to church regularly I wouldn't have done some of the stuff I did. I can't say it wouldn't have happened if I was more involved but I think it might have helped. Who knows really. I remember for a period of time there was some sort of thing that people who weren't virgins and committed to Christ were saying they were renewed virgins, something to that effect. I never went that route. I did what I did, not proud of it. Do I wish I would've waited until I was married? Yes.
My guess is they referred to themselves as "born-again virgins".

As sinners, we commit and submit to Jesus Christ, and are born-again.

In theory, as sexual sinners, we commit and submit to Jesus Christ, and are born-again virgins.

Jesus Christ saves and allows us to be born-again.

Abstinence does not save, though, so we can't be born-again virgins.

I hear professed Christians talking about (and posting here about) their fiancés that they seem to be living with, and about "hooking up", or "being together", or "dating"......... and the words certainly don't seem to have the mild connotations they used to carry.

Is it my overactive imagination, or are as many Christians engaging in pre-marital sex as is sounds like to me?
If 2 people aren't married but are playing house, I call it "shacking up". My politically incorrect way of making a point.

I am dating, but my gf lives 1800 miles away right now. After she finishes college, she intends to move into the same area and have her own apartment.

I don't read all the threads that are posted and haven't seen the phrases you're referring to.

Is this the same system that tells people they come from monkeys? I am surprised that they even bother to have laws. Sometimes I get confused about whether we are speaking as citizens of the nations of this world or as citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven. We need to reckon ourselves as separate from the unclean things all around us. When we do, we will begin to pay a price, just like our spiritual forefathers did. I know I am preaching. No apologies for it. The tone in this thread just sound so secular.

I didn't think so.

Am I the only one who literally feels like (or actually does) cry every time I see the term, "unwanted pregnancies"? Maybe it is just that in my house we had the old-fashioned idea that children were blessings, and my parents loved and "expected" every one of us. I can't bear the idea that there are people out there (good people) who "don't want this pregnancy" I suppose they call it "unwanted pregnancy" because it is too horrible even for them to say "I never wanted this baby to exist or have a chance to live! If I had my way, this soul would never have been conceived!"
There is no such thing as an unwanted pregnancy.

There are particular women who are pregnant who don't want to be pregnant, but there is another woman or family in this country that wants to adopt.

Why is it that when the unborn is wanted, s/he is called a "baby"

While, if the unborn is not wanted, s/he is called a "pregnancy".

Are you deaf? We WERE very secular. Not all of us popped out of the womb baptized and wearing a choir robe like you might have.

I don't know why, but this thread is kind of funny to me. I am such a prude compared to most people. LOL.

Maybe it's just because I am tired and being driven like a mule today. Seems like today is "honey do" day on top of "wipe my butt and make me sammiches" day like normal.

That's me :D. And a halo of blonde hair. (Uh, actually from the stories I've heard, that's not quite what happened...but the blonde hair is right, any road!)

Willie's statement of over 400 encounters just has my brain locked up. I can't even fathom that. I've engaged in that activity less than 10 times in my entire life, and that includes all women I've ever been involved with including both wives. I wouldn't have the stomach to handle it 400 times.

So what if two people decide to have a celebration of a union as husband and wife except they don't have the pastor and the vows and the legal document. Are they still shacking up?

I can imagine my Father saying, don't and my Mother being really embarrassed. My Sister and I were discussing our family dog the other day. My parents never had him fixed, it was the seventies and I think animals were just supposed to know better. Once and a while a lady dog would come and visit Smokey and my Dad would spray them with the hose to try and get them apart, lol. I said to my Sister, good thing he never caught us or we'd get the hose.
I think in my house it must have been really "if they don't ask, we don't tell" because I'm pretty sure some of my older siblings had those talks, but during the time where I was wondering about that stuff I was also painfully embarrassed about talking about it; so I never asked my parents. I'm not blaming my parents AT all, but I would probably do it different if I have children.

imo, the legal doc should be from a church and not government who extorts the person for payment.

Killing this self-righteous crap is a very big thing with me. I am so sick of young people being subjected to pie-in-the-sky holiness rhetoric that some people try to feed them. What is wrong with an adult who thinks they are helping anyone, let alone kids, by making out that theirs never stinks, and that they are so holy they poot gold dust.

Kids screw up. Kids doubt. Kids have insecurities. Heavens, kids even touch one another. We have no business trying to shame them into thinking they are awful for experiencing the same things most normal humans have experienced since time began.

If a kid sees Willie was a hound dog when he was younger.... BUT he got his butt back on God's wavelength, maybe he is going to think that he has a real chance of doing it too.

Rant over.
