Hi all,
Just wondering what you do when someone in your company uses our Lords name in vain or as a cuss word.
It has often shocked and surprised me to even hear professing christians doing this and it angers me profoundly that in one breath they call on His name for help and aid and in the next breath dishonour him by casually using His name as an expletive.
And then there is the issue of non believers who do this.I have one such person in my life who frequently desecrates His holy name when angry, surprised or shocked but because I am trying to win her over to Christ I am not sure how I can tell her that I find this highly offensive and view it as a personal injury especially since this is the Name by which I have been saved.
And why is it that when someone injures their thumb with a hammer names such as " Hare Krishna" ," Mohammed" or " Bhudda" are exempt from being a word of derision?
Anyway, I am looking for pointers on how to confront people on this terrible sin while maintaining the balance of being firm yet still being winsome and conveying love.
Thanks!
Hi! Yeah, I've had the same problem! With professing Christians, while it is not your place to change them, we should lovingly show others their faults. Lovingly point out to them James 3:10, and be prepared for ridicule or rejection.
With non believers, that isn't going to hold water with them. Instead of making them feel like you're judging them, or like you're trying to change them, simply state that you would prefer they didn't use that expression around you. Again, be prepared for ridicule or rejection. (And use common sense...don't do this to someone you pass on the street that you'll never see again, and don't bluntly bring it up with a co-worker when you're in a meeting with a whole bunch of people).
If they just don't hear you, remember that THEY are not your responsibility...if it gets too bad, maybe you need to find another job.
