Hi Everyone,

My friends and family like to tease me because I am extremely picky about, gasp, condiments.

I don't like most of them, and, to the horror of those around me, usually prefer my sandwiches and burgers "dry". I don't like ketchup, mustard, and, heaven forbid, mayonnaise (YUCK!!) causing my sandwich to be runny, goopy, or soggy. BLEH!! To me, there's nothing more horrifying than biting into some kind of delicious sandwich-like concoction -- only to have some soppy, gooey mess slide down the side of your arm. EEK!!

But, I know that's just me, and I'm sure that I am definitely in the minority!

Ironically, I DO like A-1 sauce with my burgers or, on the rare occasion I would have steak (and it HAS to be A-1 -- no substitutions,) and I also like Heinz Cocktail Sauce (once again, it HAS to be Heinz!) with cold shrimp or fried fish products, like sticks or fillets. I've tried using store or other brands, and... For some things, if I can't use the specific brand, I'll just go without.

I also like malt vinegar with some types of fish, and that pickled ginger that comes with sushi (but is that more of a side dish than a condiment?)

Anyway... I wanted to try to write a poll, but can't figure out how to let people express their different opinions about the various condiments with just a poll, so I'm going to list some common condiments here and ask what YOU all think of them!

For instance, fill in the blanks: "(Type of Condiment) Is (Delicious, Depressing, Indifferent,) And Only Belongs On (Hot Dogs, Sandwiches, Certain Dishes, Anything, Everything.)"

What do YOU think of the following condiments -- as well as any you'd like to "add on"? :D

* Mustard
* Ketchup
* Grey Poupon (gourmet mustard)
* Ranch Dressing (It's a scourge, I'm telling you!)
* Pickle Relish
* Soy Sauce
* Hot Sauce
* BBQ Sauce
* Mayonnaise
* Cream Cheese
* Sour Cream
* Salsa
* Vinegar
* Aioli
* Wasabi

I know there are a PLETHORA of other choices, and that's where YOU come in!!

* What are YOUR most loved -- and most loathed -- condiments, and why? Is there a certain brand you HAVE to have?

* Do certain condiments ONLY belong on certain things? Why or why not? Are certain foods NAKED or incomplete without certain condiments? (Like a bagel without cream cheese?!)

* Can you REALLY put certain condiments -- on almost everything???

* What are the most, uh, CREATIVE combinations YOU'VE tried?! Were they a yay or a nay? And did your family/friends have any, um, feedback regarding your concoction?

I hope you'll all "relish" this moment, take a minute to "ketchup", and "mustard" your own response to this thread! :D

Ketchup, mustard (good for our digestion), Worcestershire for steak, A1 is awesome, Heinz has a good steak sauce as well.
Some salad dressings are advertised as dipping sauces as well, Ranch, Bluecheese, etc.
Cookies Barbeque sauce.

Thinking of others

* Mustard - pour it on, then put on some more
* Ketchup - a little goes a long way
* Grey Poupon (gourmet mustard) - yuck, to rich for my blood
* Ranch Dressing (It's a scourge, I'm telling you!) -meh
* Pickle Relish - only if homemade
* Soy Sauce - yeah!
* Hot Sauce - WooHoo!
* BBQ Sauce - Yes
* Mayonnaise - Use sparingly and raringly.
* Cream Cheese - yummy
* Sour Cream - Gotta have it!
* Salsa - Depends...
* Vinegar - So good and useful, especially the apple cider variety
* Aioli - what's alioli?
* Wasabi - Nope

I have a preference for my own tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, Carolina BBQ sauce, and a few other sauces. The store bought stuff just isn't very good where sauces are concerned.

My burgers get 3 parts yellow mustard to 1 part ketchup. My steaks get seasoned and aren't ruined with a sauce.

What do YOU think of the following condiments -- as well as any you'd like to "add on"? :D
* Mustard - Heinz or French's.
* Ketchup - Heinz
* Grey Poupon (gourmet mustard) - rarely, but OK.
* Ranch Dressing (It's a scourge, I'm telling you!) Hidden Valley - love the stuff.
* Pickle Relish - MT. Olive or Vlasic - sweet & dill
* Soy Sauce - Kikoman
* Hot Sauce - McKenny Co.. - tabasco - use on eggs.
* BBQ Sauce - Sweet Baby Rays - hickory & brown sugar
* Mayonnaise - Helman's. (I like Duke too but my wife doesn't care for it so I don't buy it)
* Cream Cheese - Philly
* Sour Cream - Daisy
* Salsa - Pace - medium
* Vinegar - Great Value - use mostly when doing laundry. It removes cat hair.
* Aioli - don't know what that is.
* Wasabi - only had it once, burnt my insides out.

ADDED:
Worcestershire Sauce - Lea & Perrins.

I agree with you about the cocktail sauce - has to be Heinz.

*GG jumps online and sees the title. Without read the loooooooooooooooooong OP and ONLY noting the title (Can ketchup go on anything) she jumps into the thread to explicitly say:

EW! NO! NO NO NO NO NO NO
NO!!!

Anything else @seoulsearch had to say here has been ignored!
(but GG will likely be giving it more attention at a later time ;) )

I often FORGET what I've said -- does that count as me ignoring myself??!

I knew a kid at my elementary school who ate ketchup on brownies, icecream, and fruit. To him, yes...in fact he'd put ketchup on ketchup lol

I hate ketchup on anything, unless its on a burger with mayo, mustard, pickles and lettuce. Im kind of a picky eater ;p

*DISCLAIMER: Please note that GG just woke up, isn't fully alert and only partly skimming this thread with a few silly thoughts about replies to make but to post them would show just how incoherent she currently is. However, could not resist this one:

Cookies Barbeque sauce.

Thanks for the visual @shittim :LOL: it helped me understand better. Otherwise I might get super critical over this here controversy. You see, in my half awake state of mind (without paying attention to your helpful illustration) I read that as listing cookies: BBQ sauce :LOL::LOL:

My thought to that monstrosity was:
:eek: BBQ sauce on cookies! :sick: Shittim are you completely bonkers!? EW! Just Ew!

PHEW! Good thing I'm practicing being slow to respond to threads and not just typing the first thing that comes to mind when I read someone's post! Especially in one of these very controversial type threads, otherwise I might look/sound like a complete jerk right about now :whistle:

Welp...
Time to go see if I have everything I need to make a good cuppa :coffee: (otherwise, I might just go back to bed).

Hi Lisa, i recall a time I took my 5 year old grandson out for supper and made a happy face on his plate with the ketchup squirt bottle, he was so happy!:):):)

Worcestershire sauce
Tabasco
Honey mustard
Soy sauce
Teriyaki

Mustard preparations? Ummmm I use many depending on what I'm doing. Huge variety and flavors. Whole grains versus the hot ones.

Vinegars? ALL of them. From malt vinegar (American substitutes kinda suck) to white balsamic are used (and all points in between)

Salad dressing....both mayo based and vinaigrette.

So many condiments so little time

Lol!

I think of blue cheese the same way as you think of ranch dressing -- they're BOTH scourges, as far as I'm concerned. :LOL:

Blue cheese may or may not have been omitted in the hopes that people would forget it exists. :cool:

vinegar on good traditional fish and chips.now were dancing.

Welcome, Lisa!

Great to have you hear and joining in on the conversations! :)

It seems like it can be hard to find good ones here in the USA (batter on the fish too thin, too crumby, too soggy... chips that are too spongy or flavorless...)

I would love to be able to travel to other countries someday to try their versions! :D
