Throwing my five cents in here. Most holidays are pagan in my view but everyone is covered by grace. But but but I do think these sins can bring sickness upon those who continue.
Is it a sin to celebrate birthdays too?

I'm just curious what your thoughts are. I had a friend in college who was Jehovah's Witness (not saying you are by any means, I'm just wondering your stance,) and she would talk about how both celebrating holidays and birthdays was displeasing to God.

Birthdays are important to me as they were to God. We have their birth year and deaths recorded for many.

Imagine if Israel celebrated a pagan christmas? And they telling their children this idol knows if you been naughty or nice?

I'm not sure what happened with your post, but you have the second half looking like it was me replying to myself, when it was actually you answering my question.

I don't celebrate a pagan Christmas and I don't celebrate my birthday.

But thanks for taking the time to answer.

What do you believe happens to those who die believing heresy? Do they go to hell?

IMO christians who do things displeasing to the Lord are covered by Grace. I still think disease is caused by sin whether righteous or unrighteous. I dont have all the answers

Where I come from, spinach pie is the equivalent of hot dog and apple pie in American culture.
From the moment you’re born, you don’t have your mother’s milk but grandma’s spinach pie.
Spinach pie sounds more appealing to me than apple pie. I always avoid apple pie 'cause I'm not that fond of it and as a result I'm told I'm not American lol.

To be honest, as a young adult, I had some events that happened right before the holidays one year that pretty much ruined them for me forever. I was never into Halloween except for a few decorations and candy (most churches I've been to have Trunk'O'Treat events for the kids,) but I did used to love buying presents for people at Christmas.

After some things in my life transpired, it was never the same. Now I just see them as a time to spend with family -- because it makes my parents happy -- and in the meantime, I sit back and watch people argue about whether it's ok to celebrate them or not.

I do appreciate you sharing the history and your thoughts about them, thank you.
It is "Hallow's Eve" because the very next day is All Saints Day.

Something I've been wondering about... In the 15 years I've been here reading about how holidays are evil and pagan, I've never once seen a post that mentioned Purim. Why is this?
I've only been to one Purim celebration and it was a lot of fun.
Lots of food and drink (nearly all Jewish holidays are celebrated with food and drink).
People take turns reading from Esther. Whenever Mordecai's named is mentioned, there is much cheering. Whenever Haman is mentioned, there is much booing and or hissing...
Costumes, food baskets, cookies, ... Its a lot of fun!

This sounds amazing!

Forget all these debates about Halloween and Christmas, beh.

Now I want to try going to Purim instead!

Howdy and welcome to the Forum.

Have you ever tried that? Back in my day that was an excellent way to get eggs all over your windows. And soap all over your car. If you don't have any candy it's much more neighborly to just turn your porch light off and don't answer your door.

Giving a child a tract when he is expecting candy is like giving a man a salad when he is expecting a steak. It's pretty cruel.
With all do respect, if I see an opportunity to promote the Lord and there is a chance of backlash from the community, I would rather stand with GOD and be judged by man than to stand with MAN and be judged by GOD. Have I done this in the past, yes I have, as well as for other holidays as well. I do not just wait until this time of the year, I do what I can year round to plant seeds. I am not worried if my car gets bombed with eggs or my yard gets targeted for toilet paper or any other actions by unbelievers. I recall that in Scripture it says that those who are persecuted for the sake of the Gospel have a special blessing, [ OT = Psalm 37:12; Jeremiah 20:2; 1 Kings 19:10 / NT = Matthew 5:10-12; Luke 6:22-23 ] So as you can see from these scripture citations, anyone who stands for God will be persecuted. I guess the real question is whether to please God or man? Look good in the eyes of God or look good in the eyes of man? I personally will choose God every time, no matter the outcome or consequence.

Yeah. I figured you would say that. Right down to the pleasing God or man bit.

Fortunately my reply was more for the benefit of others than for a conversation with you. So, no biggie.

For everyone else reading this thread: if you don't want to participate, it's much more neighborly to just turn your porch light off and not answer the door than it is to be argumentative and deliberately disappoint children like this prideful "ambassador."

Why not both? A Gospel tract fits just as easily in a goody bag as candy and chocolates can!

Now that's the best idea I have seen yet in this thread.
I used to work for an employer that hosted a community Easter egg hunt for several years.

The eggs were plastic and contained slips to be turned in for prizes (a free 2-liter of pop, etc.)

People who attended were vicious and unGodly -- one woman literally snatched the plastic egg right out of the hands of the 2-year-old son of a friend I'd brought that day. I had all I could do to keep from saying something. (I later bought the poor little guy a prize of his own because he'd done a great job -- he found the egg, but this woman apparently felt it was rightfully hers and scooped it up from him.)

Every slip of paper inside those eggs had John 3:16 written out on it along with the coupon for the prize.

God bless that woman who literally stole that egg from my friend's little boy -- she most certainly needed it.
