These were NOT genuine believers in Matthew 7:22-23. These many people were trusting in their works for salvation and not in Jesus Christ alone. Faith in Jesus Christ (everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him - John 6:40) for salvation is what they were missing. (Matthew 7:21) Jesus never knew them which means they were never saved. Are you seeing the light yet?

In regard to Acts 19:2, their answer to Paul's question, “we have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit” demonstrated that they did not yet believe on Christ Jesus unto salvation. Paul further asked, "into what then were you baptized? They said, “into John’s baptism.” Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” When they heard this, they were afterwards baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. There would have been no need to re-baptize them if they had already believed on Christ Jesus unto salvation. These disciples of John needed further instructions to become believers on Christ Jesus then afterwards, they received the Holy Spirit after Paul laid hands on them (which is the exception, not the rule in every case of conversion).

Now in regard to being filled with the Holy Spirit, not in every case will someone speak in tongues.

In Acts 4:8, we see that Peter here was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke with boldness to the rulers of the people and elders of Israel along with all who were assembled together there. (Acts 4:31) *Yet nothing is mentioned here about them speaking in tongues.

In Acts 7:55, after rebuking Israel, we see that Stephen was filled with the Holy Spirit and he gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and said, “Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” (vs. 56) Afterwards, Stephen was stoned to death. *Yet nothing is mentioned here about him speaking in tongues.

In Acts 9:17, we see that Ananias laid his hands on Brother Saul and announced to him that the Lord Jesus has sent him so that he may receive his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. *Yet nothing is mentioned here about Paul speaking in tongues after something like scales fell from his eyes and he received his sight.

In Acts 13:9-11, we see that Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit and rebuked Elymas the sorcerer and announced to him that the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time. *Yet nothing is mentioned here about Paul speaking in tongues. So, speaking in tongues may be "an" evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit but it is not "the" evidence in every case.

It truly amazes me to see how everything that I explained to you in post #96 just went right over your head.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

JESUS says they say, HAVE WE NOT PROPHESIED IN THY NAME?
AND IN THY NAME CAST OUT DEVILS?
AND IN THY NAME DONE MANY WONDERFUL WORKS?

AND YOU SAY THEY DID GENUINE BELIEVE??? WHY?

Acts 19 if you were right you would be right but your wrong and will not accept it.

Acts 4:31 how many times does it have to be recorded? But if you want to think that fine with me.

Acts 7, What does that have to do with speaking in tongues? The question is without the Holy Ghost would they have seen what they seen?

Acts 9, Ananias was telling a story. He was baptized and it does not mention Paul being filled with the Holy Ghost BUT we KNOW HE WAS. He speaks about the Holy Ghost and what comes with it in 1 Cor chapter 14.

Acts 13, Yep just says Paul was full of the Holy Ghost, notes above.

Did it go over my head? Maybe it wasn't true could that be possible?

Can we enter Heaven with sin?
Can we be reborn with sin?
YOU THINK SO!! That is the PROBLEM.
You think all we need to do is believe, is there different levels of believing?

To Believe is not a basis to Salvation. Even the Devils are believing too.
JAMES 2:19
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
You need to read this in context beginning with verse 15 - Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

JESUS says they say, HAVE WE NOT PROPHESIED IN THY NAME?
AND IN THY NAME CAST OUT DEVILS?
AND IN THY NAME DONE MANY WONDERFUL WORKS?
Key word, many will SAY. Jesus did not confirm this and instead said to them, "And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Jesus exposed their true colors. You just can't see it.

AND YOU SAY THEY DID GENUINE BELIEVE??? WHY?
These were make believers, exposed by Jesus. Simply believing certain things "about" Jesus does mean that someone knows Jesus/has a personal relationship with Him. (John 17:3)

Acts 19 if you were right you would be right but your wrong and will not accept it.
You are the master of IRONY.

Acts 4:31 how many times does it have to be recorded? But if you want to think that fine with me.
I proved you wrong and you have no rebuttal.

Acts 7, What does that have to do with speaking in tongues? The question is without the Holy Ghost would they have seen what they seen?
Still no rebuttal. Conclusion. Not every case of being filled with the Holy Spirit results in speaking in tongues.

Acts 9, Ananias was telling a story. He was baptized and it does not mention Paul being filled with the Holy Ghost BUT we KNOW HE WAS. He speaks about the Holy Ghost and what comes with it in 1 Cor chapter 14.
We know that he would because Ananias said he would.

Acts 13, Yep just says Paul was full of the Holy Ghost, notes above.
Yep, filled with the Holy Spirit yet no tongues.

Did it go over my head? Maybe it wasn't true could that be possible?
It went over your head. You need to stop fighting against the truth.

Can we enter Heaven with sin?
NO.

Can we be reborn with sin?
NO and Jesus is the solution to our sin problem. (Acts 10:43; 26:18; Romans 3:23-26; 4:5-6; 6:23 etc..).

THINK SO!! That is the PROBLEM. You think all we need to do is believe, is there different levels of believing?
We need to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ in order to be saved (Acts 16:31) which goes beyond merely believing "mental assent" that "there is one God." (James 2:19) So, yes there are different levels of believing. One is merely with the head and the other goes deeper and is also with the heart. (Romans 10:8-10) ✝️

To Believe is not a basis to Salvation. Even the Devils are believing too.
JAMES 2:19
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
You would do well to learn all of Scripture before making pronouncements.

“Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.”

I agree he says many, is anyone debting that?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

"These were make believers, exposed by Jesus. Simply believing certain things "about" Jesus does mean that someone knows Jesus/has a personal relationship with Him. (John 17:3)"

Looks to me since they were surprised that JESUS didn't know them, so they had to believe.
They were missing something they believed and looks like they had the Holy Ghost what were they missing.

Note all you have is belief, am I wrong?

"You are the master of IRONY."
Just sharing HIS word, sometimes the struggle is real.

"I proved you wrong and you have no rebuttal."
Your battle is not with me, IT IS WITH JESUS AND HIS WORD, how about these scriptures.

We have to show TWO or more verses to be true.
2 Corinthians 13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

Paul SAID WHAT HAPPENS.
Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

JESUS SAID.
Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 10:45-46
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

Acts 19:6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

WE ALSO know, or I do in Acts 8 they did not get it and had to send for Peter and John and got it days later. HOW DID THEY KNOW THEY DIDN'T GET IT?

WE ALSO know, or I do no record of Paul getting the Holy GHost BUT we know he SPOKE IN TONGUES.

SO WHY WILL YOU NOT ACCEPT IT, HOW MANY EXAMPLES IN HIS WORD DOES IT TAKE FOR YOU TO BELIEVE?

Acts 13, Yep just says Paul was full of the Holy Ghost, notes above.
"Yep, filled with the Holy Spirit yet no tongues."

Are you saying Paul never spoke in tongues?

Did it go over my head? Maybe it wasn't true could that be possible?

Show me in detail how those scripture say "YOUR SINs ARE FORGIVEN"

False prophets, they were but they THOUGHT they were good, like people today who refuse to accept HIS word.
Exactly. ;)

I agree he says many, is anyone debating that?
Many indeed, which is no surprise. (Matthew 7:13-14)

Looks to me since they were surprised that JESUS didn't know them, so they had to believe.
Believe what? If they believed in Jesus unto salvation (Acts 16:31) then Jesus would never have said to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

They were missing something they believed and looks like they had the Holy Ghost what were they missing.
People who have the Holy Spirit are saved. (Acts 11:17; Romans 8:9) Jesus never knew them (Matthew 7:23) which means they were never saved which would also mean they did not have the Holy Spirit. You can't have it both ways.

Note all you have is belief, am I wrong?
It takes the right kind of belief. (John 3:18; Acts 10:9,10; 43; 11:17; 16:31 etc..). Mere "mental assent" belief does not cut it. (James 2:19)

Just sharing HIS word, sometimes the struggle is real.
Anyone can share His word, but not everyone can properly interpret His word. What is the difference maker? See (1 Corinthians 2:11-14).

Your battle is not with me, IT IS WITH JESUS AND HIS WORD, how about these scriptures.
I have no battle with Jesus and His word. I simply do not agree with your EISEGESIS.

Nothing here refutes anything that I shared with you from scripture.

JESUS SAID.
Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
In the beginning years of the church, casting out demons was a common miracle that confirmed the speaker as a follower of Jesus. (Acts 5:16; 8:7; 19:12) In one case, Paul cast out a demon just because it was annoying him. (Acts 16:18) The gift of tongues was not simply gibberish that we find in certain churches today that abuse it. The gift of tongues, in addition to gifts of healing and other miracles, were common in the early church age. As with many of God's prophets, He empowered them to perform miracles so that their words would be validated in the sight of others. With the finalization of the canon of books determined to be inspired, we do not need miracles to affirm Jesus' words. Although God can and does still work directly in people's lives through miracles at times today, it is not something we should expect on a regular basis at it was in the early church age.

Acts 10:45-46
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Tongues is not a universal sign of faith in Christ for all. In the book of Acts there were cases of someone accepting Christ and immediately speaking in tongues. Since the message of Jesus' offer of salvation has spread to other languages, tongues today are not a common occurrence as they were in the early church age. Too often it even becomes abused in certain cults and false religions. No one should doubt their salvation because they don't speak in tongues. These were specific situations during the early church age in which the Holy Spirit needed to prove a point.

Again, exception not the rule in general.

WE ALSO know, or I do no record of Paul getting the Holy GHost BUT we know he SPOKE IN TONGUES.
Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit when something like scales fell from His eyes prior to receiving water baptism. (Acts 9:18)

SO WHY WILL YOU NOT ACCEPT IT, HOW MANY EXAMPLES IN HIS WORD DOES IT TAKE FOR YOU TO BELIEVE?
I have no problem accepting that certain people spoke in tongues in scripture. It's a spiritual gift, as with other spiritual gifts, yet not everyone speaks in tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:28 - God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29 Are ALL apostles? Are ALL prophets? Are ALL teachers? Do ALL work miracles? 30 Do ALL have gifts of healing? Do ALL speak in tongues? Do ALL interpret? The answer to that rhetorical question is NO. I just have a problem with your false gospel of being water baptized in Jesus' name only evidenced by speaking in tongues or else you won't be saved.

Acts 13, Yep just says Paul was full of the Holy Ghost, notes above.
"Yep, filled with the Holy Spirit yet no tongues."

Are you saying Paul never spoke in tongues?
Not there he didn't.

Did it go over my head? Maybe it wasn't true could that be possible?
It went over your head. You need to stop fighting against the truth.
I already understand about being filled with the Holy Spirit about water baptism and about the spiritual gift of tongues. I don't create a false gospel out of it.

Show me in detail how those scripture say "YOUR SINs ARE FORGIVEN"
Really? You can't see it?
Acts 10:43 - Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.

Acts 13:38,39 - Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; 39 and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Acts 26:18 - to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.

Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believes in Jesus.

Romans 4:5 - But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, 6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works.

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

STILL DON'T SEE IT?

No mentioning of how we get rid of our sins, or JESUS filling us with the Holy Ghost, YEP it didn't go over my head because you struck out never even hit the ball.
These verses clearly point out the solution to our sin problem/how to get rid of our sins. You just don't have eyes to see or ears to hear.

As for receiving the Holy Spirit.

Acts 11:17 - If therefore God gave them the same gift (Holy Spirit) as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”

Acts 15:7 - And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, 9 and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Ephesians 1:13 - In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

Exactly. ;)

Many indeed, which is no surprise. (Matthew 7:13-14)

You will not accept ALL of HIS word including the book of Acts I do.

Best of luck.

AMEN, all we can do is share HIS word.

Yes, all we can do is to share the truth in the words of God because there are lot of false prophets out there and preach the wrong way to salvation.
People are pitiful because they believe them.
MATTHEW 23:23-24
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

I don't need luck. I have Jesus. (1 John 5:11-13) :)

Since I only share HIS word why would you say I'm interpreting it?

Ok, I'll play if you accept all of HIS word.

How do you explain these verses?

Acts 2:38-39
King James Version
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

You share HIS word then you interpret it according to YOUR eisegesis.

In Acts 2:38, "for the remission of sins" does not refer back to both clauses, "you all repent" and "each one of you be baptized," but refers only to the first. Peter is saying "repent unto the remission of your sins," the same as in Acts 3:19. The clause "each one of you be baptized" is parenthetical. This is exactly what Acts 3:19 teaches except that Peter omits the parenthesis.

*Also compare the fact that these Gentiles in Acts 10:45 received the gift of the Holy Spirit (compare with Acts 2:38 - the gift of the Holy Spirit) and this was BEFORE water baptism. (Acts 10:47)

In Acts 10:43 we read ..whoever believes in Him receives remission of sins. Again, these Gentiles received the gift of the Holy Spirit - Acts 10:45 - when they believed on the Lord Jesus Christ - Acts 11:17 - (compare with Acts 16:31 - Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved) BEFORE water baptism - Acts 10:47. This is referred to as repentance unto life - Acts 11:18.

*So, the only logical conclusion when properly harmonizing scripture with scripture is that faith in Jesus Christ "implied in genuine repentance" (rather than water baptism) brings the remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:47; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 5:31; 10:43-47; 11:17,18; 13:38-39; 15:7-9; 16:31; 20:21; 26:18). *Perfect Harmony* :)

As I said YOU WILL NOT ACCEPT HIS WORD!!

Since I asked about Acts 2:38-39 how about we stick with that first ok?

In Acts 2:38, "for the remission of sins" does not refer back to both clauses, "you all repent" and "each one of you be baptized," but refers only to the first. Peter is saying "repent unto the remission of your sins,"

HIS WORD.

If you notice HIS word says "and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins"

WHICH MEANS "AND BE BAPTIZED EVERYONE OF YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS"

And YOU accuse ME OF EISEGESIS!!!

This is what happens to people like you who modife HIS word to suit your needs.

Revelation 22:18-19
King James Version
18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

As I said good luck.

AGAIN, I ACCEPT HIS WORD. I just do not accept your EISEGESIS. Notice how I properly harmonized scripture with scripture before reaching my conclusion on doctrine. You simply hung your hat on one pet verse (while ignoring the rest) which culminated in your eisegesis.

You claim I'm interpreting HIS word when I just SHARED HIS WORD.

HOW AM I interpreting it?????

Acts 2:38-39
King James Version
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Pet verse? Kind of like hitting in a long nail, hit it until it's in all the way.

You are like a rock so it takes a lot of hits.

YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS INTERPRETING IT!!

SO STOP HARMONIZING AND READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just think if you could be humble and read what it says we could move to the second part of it.

That's a lot of exclamation marks. So, you except me to stop harmonizing scripture with scripture before reaching my conclusion on doctrine and simply discard (Luke 24:47; Acts 3:19; 5:31; 10:43-47; 11:17,18; 13:38-39; 15:7-9: 20:21; 26:18) and interpret Acts 2:38 at face value in such a way that it does not harmonize with these multiple passages of scripture? Not a chance! That is how contradictions happen.

I have read what Acts 2:38 says - And be baptized every one of you (κα βαπτισθητω εκαστος υμων) which is change of number from plural to singular and of person from second to third. This change marks a break in the thought here that the English translation does not preserve. The NT was written in Greek then later translated into English. You need to get beyond your pet verse and apply Biblical hermeneutics, righly dividing the word of truth.

Why your doing you harmonizing, harmonize this one it to it.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

CAN'T ENTER WITHOUT BOTH, which HARMONIZES with Acts 2:38-39

On the judgement day, it is Our Lord Jesus who made the basis of salvation to the sheep.
He did not mentioned another basis but this.

Can we stick on his basis?
MATTHEW 25:33-40
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

We must obey them completely because if it is not complete, it is nothing.
This is Our Lord Jesus taught to James and he wrote it for us.
JAMES 2:10
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Your biased interpretation of both verses may harmonize with your eisegesis but not with the rest of scripture. To automatically read "baptism" into John 3:5 simply because it mentions "water" is unwarranted.

Jesus mentions "living water" in (John 4:10, 14; 7:37-39) and connects it with everlasting life. In John 7:38-39, we read - "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the source of living water and spiritual cleansing. If "water" is arbitrarily defined as baptism, then we could just as justifiably say, "Out of his heart will flow rivers of living baptism" in John 7:38. If that sounds ridiculous, it is no more so than the idea that water baptism is the source or the means of becoming born again.

Water is also used in the Bible as an emblem of the word of God and in such is associated with cleansing or washing. (John 15:3; Ephesians 5:26) Clean because of the word/washing of water by the word. When we are born again, the Holy Spirit begets new life, divine life, so that we are said to become "partakers of the divine nature." (2 Peter 1:4) The new birth is brought to pass through "incorruptible seed, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever" (I Peter 1:23) and the Holy Spirit accomplishes the washing of regeneration. (Titus 3:5)

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Where does the text tell us this is "the basis of salvation"? It doesn't; that's your invention. These are works that result from salvation; the expression of a redeemed heart in response to God's love in Jesus Christ.

We ARE NOT saved by our works. We CANNOT be saved by our works.

We must obey them completely because if it is not complete, it is nothing.
This is Our Lord Jesus taught to James and he wrote it for us.
JAMES 2:10
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Wrong. James was talking about the Law as given to ancient Israel through Moses. He was not talking about the commands Christ have His followers. Again, you are taking verses out of context and misapplying them.
