The Divisions of the 70 Weeks

In verse 24, Gabriel says, “Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city.” Almost all commentators agree that the seventy “sevens” should be understood as seventy “weeks” of years, in other words, a period of 490 years. These verses provide a sort of “clock” that gives an idea of when the Messiah would come and some of the events that would accompany His appearance.

The prophecy goes on to divide the 490 years into three smaller units: one of 49 years, one of 434 years, and one 7 years. The final “week” of 7 years is further divided in half. Verse 25 says, “From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’” Seven “sevens” is 49 years, and sixty-two “sevens” is another 434 years:

49 years + 434 years = 483 years

The Purpose of the 70 Weeks
The prophecy contains a statement concerning God’s six-fold purpose in bringing these events to pass. Verse 24 says this purpose is 1) “to finish transgression,” 2) “to put an end to sin,” 3) “to atone for wickedness,” 4) “to bring in everlasting righteousness,” 5) “to seal up vision and prophecy,” and 6) “to anoint the most holy.”

Notice that these results concern the total eradication of sin and the establishing of righteousness. The prophecy of the 70 weeks summarizes what happens before Jesus sets up Hismillennial kingdom. Of special note is the third in the list of results: “to atone for wickedness.” Jesus accomplished theatonementfor sin by His death on the cross (Romans 3:25;Hebrews 2:17).

The Fulfillment of the 70 Weeks
Gabriel said the prophetic clock would start at the time that a decree was issued to rebuild Jerusalem. From the date of that decree to the time of the Messiah would be 483 years. We know from history that the command to “restore and rebuild Jerusalem” was given by King Artaxerxes of Persia c. 445 B.C. (seeNehemiah 2:1-8).

The first unit of 49 years (seven “sevens”) covers the time that it took to rebuild Jerusalem, “with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble” (Daniel 9:25). This rebuilding is chronicled in the book of Nehemiah.

Using the Jewish custom of a 360-day year, 483 years after 445 B.C. places us at A.D. 30, which would coincide with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-9). The prophecy inDaniel 9specifies that after the completion of the 483 years, “the Anointed One will be cut off” (verse 26). This was fulfilled when Jesus was crucified.

Daniel 9:26continues with a prediction that, after the Messiah is killed, “the people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary.” This was fulfilled with the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. The “ruler who will come” is a reference to the Antichrist, who, it seems, will have some connection with Rome, since it was the Romans who destroyed Jerusalem.

The Final Week of the 70 Weeks
Of the 70 “sevens,” 69 have been fulfilled in history. This leaves one more “seven” yet to be fulfilled. Most scholars believe that we are now living in a huge gap between the 69th week and the 70th week. The prophetic clock has been paused, as it were. The final “seven” of Daniel is what we usually call thetribulation period.

Daniel’s prophecy reveals some of the actions of theAntichrist, the “ruler who will come.” Verse 27 says, “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’” However, “in the middle of the ‘seven,’ . . . he will set up an abomination that causes desolation” in the temple. Jesus warned of this event inMatthew 24:15. After the Antichrist breaks the covenant with Israel, a time of “great tribulation” begins (Matthew 24:21, NKJV).

Daniel also predicts that the Antichrist will face judgment. He only rules “until the end that is decreed is poured out on him” (Daniel 9:27). God will only allow evil to go so far, and the judgment the Antichrist will face has already been planned out.

Conclusion
The prophecy of the 70 weeks is complex and amazingly detailed, and much has been written about it. Of course, there are various interpretations, but what we have presented here is thedispensational, premillennialview. One thing is certain: God has a time table, and He is keeping things on schedule. He knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10), and we should always be looking for the triumphant return of our Lord (Revelation 22:7).

Abomination is refering to idol worship

1 Kings 11:5-7 KJV
(5) For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
(6) And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.
(7) Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.

Now look at another verse also speaking of the abomination of desolation

Matthew 24:15-16 KJV
(15) When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
(16) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

Luke 21:20-21 KJV
(20) And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
(21) Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

So we need to put all this together to find out what Matthew 24:15 is saying. It has been fulfilled at the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD. At the destruction of Jerusalem not one christian lost their life, why? Because they heeded Christ's instruction in this verse.

The story in Matt 24 is not only the destruction of the temple, but also the second coming of the Lord ( verse 3).
So we expect the story of the second coming on the verse after verse 3.

Then the story continued there will be Great tribulation verse 21. When is the great tribulation happen?

It happen when the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place.

I believe it is when the Antichrist rule from the temple that will be build soon.

So do you believe great tribulation happen already?

Great tribulation follow by second coming. If you believe these tribulation happen already, why Jesus not coming yet?

9 "But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately , saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?" 4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many. 6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. 8 "But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. 9 "Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. 10 "At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. 11 "Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. 12 "Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold. 13 "But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved. 14 "This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

15 "Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand ), 16 then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. 17 "Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house. 18 "Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 19"But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! 20 "But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. 21 "For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.

international standard

He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."

Seem to me, Daniel 9:27 talking about what happen till the end/second coming of Christ.

And second coming is not happen yet.

well there is your problem it does not say till the second coming of Christ.

What is the word the end on that verse above?

Jesus did bring and end to the sacrifices, they pointed to Him. After His death the sacrifices had no more meaning. Look at what happened when Jesus died.

John 19:30 KJV
(30) When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Matthew 27:50-51 KJV
(50) Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
(51) And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

In both texts Jesus speaks just before He dies, so the loud voice is when Jesus says "It is finished". So what happened after Jesus said it is finished? He died and the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom showing the temple services finished. So Jesus did put an end to the sacrifices.

Of the last sayings of Christ on the cross, none is more important or more poignant than, “It is finished.” Found only in the Gospel of John, the Greek word translated “it is finished” is tetelestai, an accounting term that means “paid in full.” When Jesus uttered those words, He was declaring the debt owed to His Father was wiped away completely and forever. Not that Jesus wiped away any debt that He owed to the Father; rather, Jesus eliminated the debt owed by mankind—the debt of sin.

Jesus did bring and end to the sacrifices, they pointed to Him. After His death the sacrifices had no more meaning. Look at what happened when Jesus died.

Solomon had nothing to do with the A.O.D. for he just lost his kingship do to following after his concubines false god's. The land and kingship was given by God to his son Rehoboam.
The A.O.D. is a future event that is to resemble what
Antiochus IV Epiphanes in the mid-2nd century BC did by building a statue of Zeus in the temple. Daniel and Jesus say that when you see this same type of desecration of the temple in the end times those who are in Judea are to flea. This desecration is done by the antichrist when he stands in the temple claiming to be God.

There are Jews to this day that live in Judea, and there is a peace treaty that is trying to be hashed out. If it does get done the area of Judea will be put in Palestinian rule, meaning the Jews there will have to live by Palestinian law or leave. So we have a peace treaty being worked on, rise in the Roman empire again through the European union, and a quick growing rise to rebuild the temple. All matching up to end times prophecies throughout the bible.

{ A single period of 490 continuous years. } These verses provide a sort of “clock” that gives an idea of when the Messiah would come and some of the events that would accompany His appearance.

The prophecy goes on to divide { 'group' - yes; 'divide' - no } the 490 years into three smaller units: one of 49 years, one of 434 years, and one 7 years.

{ The Jews fulfilled #1 when they crucified Christ. Jesus Himself fulfilled #2, #3, #4, and #6. Events in the 70 A.D. timeframe - before, during, and after - fulfilled #5. }

Notice that these results concern the total eradication of sin and the establishing of righteousness. { "not quite exactly" } The prophecy of the 70 weeks summarizes what happens before Jesus sets up Hismillennial kingdom. { The prophecy of the 70 weeks summarizes "what is left of the 'time of the Jews' before it ended and the 'time of the gentiles' ushered in"... } Of special note is the third in the list of results: “to atone for wickedness.” Jesus accomplished theatonementfor sin by His death on the cross (Romans 3:25;Hebrews 2:17).

The Fulfillment of the 70 Weeks
Gabriel said the prophetic clock would start at the time that a decree was issued to rebuild Jerusalem. From the date of that decree to the time of the Messiah would be 483 years. We know from history that the command to “restore and rebuild Jerusalem” was given by King Artaxerxes of Persia c. 445 B.C. (seeNehemiah 2:1-8). { The 'going forth of the commandment' was in 357 B.C. }

The first unit of 49 years (seven “sevens”) covers the time that it took to rebuild Jerusalem, “with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble” (Daniel 9:25). This rebuilding is chronicled in the book of Nehemiah. { It took 52+ years to rebuild the city. }

Using the Jewish custom of a 360-day year, 483 years after 445 B.C. places us at A.D. 30, which would coincide with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-9). The prophecy inDaniel 9specifies that after the completion of the 483 years, “the Anointed One will be cut off” (verse 26). This was fulfilled when Jesus was crucified. { Jesus was crucified in the middle of the 70th week, 434 years after the rebuilding of the city ended -- which was ~ 3.5 years after the end of the 7th week. }

Of the 70 “sevens,” 69 have been fulfilled in history. This leaves one more “seven” yet to be fulfilled. { Nope - all 70 weeks have been 100% completely fulfilled. } Most scholars believe that we are now living in a huge gap between the 69th week and the 70th week. { It is sad that so many have been deceived by Satan with regard to the 70 week prophecy of Daniel... } The prophetic clock has been paused, as it were. { Nope - no pause. All done. Fulfilled. Past history. } The final “seven” of Daniel is what we usually call thetribulation period. { Nope - the Bible does not tell us the length of the Great Tribulation period. }

Daniel’s prophecy reveals some of the actions of theAntichrist, the “ruler who will come.” Verse 27 says, “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’” { Nope - Christ is the one confirming the covenant - which he did during His first coming... } However, “in the middle of the ‘seven,’ . . . he will set up an abomination that causes desolation” in the temple. Jesus warned of this event inMatthew 24:15. After the Antichrist breaks the covenant with Israel, a time of “great tribulation” begins (Matthew 24:21, NKJV). { Not so. The covenant referred to in Daniel 9:27 is not a seven-year "treaty" between Israel and [ anyone ]... }

Daniel also predicts that the Antichrist will face judgment. He only rules “until the end that is decreed is poured out on him” (Daniel 9:27). God will only allow evil to go so far, and the judgment the Antichrist will face has already been planned out. { This is also a misinterpretation. }

Conclusion
The prophecy of the 70 weeks is complex and amazingly detailed, and much has been written about it. { The prophecy of the 70 weeks is much simpler - and more straightforward - than most seem to think, and much imagination has managed to create a multitude of error... } Of course, there are various interpretations, but what we have presented here is thedispensational, premillennialview. One thing is certain: God has a time table, and He is keeping things on schedule. He knows the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10), and we should always be looking for the triumphant return of our Lord (Revelation 22:7). { And we will all eventually know how it unfolds... }

"For your edification..." ;)

457 B.C. - The decree went forth to rebuild the city.
445 B.C. - The wall of the city is built in 52 days.
405 B.C. - The rebuilding of the city ends 52 years after the decree went forth.
- 3 B.C. - Christ is born in Bethlehem.
- - - - -- ( Remember that there is no year 0. )
-30 A.D. - Christ is crucified 62 x 7 = 434 years after the rebuilding of the city ends.
- - - - -- ( NOT 434 years after the end of the 7th week - look carefully at Daniel 9:25-26 )
-34 A.D. - Daniel's 70 weeks end 70 x 7 = 490 years after the decree went forth.

:)

oops!

I meant to use the phrases 'times of the Jews' and 'times of the gentiles'. :rolleyes:

EDIT: Also --- I wrote '357' instead of '457'... :eek:

You can assert your own opinions into this study in prophecy that was done, but the fact still remains that the final 7 years have not been fulfilled yet. No matter how hard you try, nothing from Jesus crucifixion to today has fulfilled this. Anything that has been brought up fulfill this from Jesus ministry to Stephen's death, to 70 AD has been debunked by showing how they do not fit the biblical prophecies. Then from 70 AD to now there definitely has been nothing to fulfill the prophecies for there has been no temple there for the antichrist to stand in and claim to be God.

Revelation
13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

There is a great deal of significance and truth contained in these capstone verses of Satan's contrivance that He will be allowed to present during the coming tribulation period

History and the future are part of the view and we can find that all of the other Bible prophets present many details of the same

I will start this thread and give commentary shortly

The first Beast mentioned is GREED that envelopes the world and all kingdoms on it. The Dragon is the devil, the second beast that rises during this time is the antichrist, the man of perdition.

^i^

You know what the problem here is, people are putting there point across on Daniel 9. when you should go back to Daniel 2 then 7 then 8 then 9 will be in its proper place.

So many mistakes because the foundation is being ignored for this prophecy.

Dave a beast is a kingdom, biblically, not a sin.

So you think people will worship a kingdom? The Beast is not a single Kingdom and the proof of that is in Scriptures

Revelation 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

7 heads are 7 Kingdoms, 10 horns are ten Leaders (Kings) So then the Beast is not a single kingdom if the description of the Beast includes 7 Kingdoms within it.

Dave a beast is a kingdom, biblically, not a sin.

Tell me please, what Biblical proof do you show that contradicts anything i have said above. You merely disagree with what i say, but do not back it up with Scriptures. please reveal that not only i may learn, but all those who read this as well.
