A lot of people try to pit Paul's teachings against James who preached a faith without works is a dead faith, but Paul was not saying righteous works would not come by an empowered grace through faith, just that we are not justified by our own works of the law.

If you look at that verse I quoted earlier in Galatians 5:6 about a faith that works (empowered, energized) by Love, you can see the same thing is being said in James...

James 2:26

[SUP]26 [/SUP]For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

So what makes the body alive in the above example? It is the Spirit. So like the body is "empowered or energized" by the Spirit of God, so is faith made alive by the works of love.

So the grace of God in Jesus Christ empowers a faith that works righteous works by the love of God being shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
Amen shows similar in these also

By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and by the same grace Paul said, I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Oopsie! You missed something very important about that parable. Not only will those of HIS BODY cry out to HIM over the unrighteousness of the world, they themselves would not withhold and should not withhold any temporal thing from ANY who ask of them

Here is my view on empowering and working grace of which I agree with a lot of the OP.

As far as being "obedient to the faith " goes..

To be "obedient to the faith" is to believe in Christ's work on the cross, burial, resurrection and ascension to the right hand of God our Father - and we are with Him too because we are joined as one spirit with Him. Thank you Jesus!

Acts 6:7 says that a great many of the priest were being "obedient to the faith". These priests were the cleanest living people on the planet - doing the whole Law as best they could - yet this is not being obedient to the faith.

Living without sinning ( as these priests surely thought they did ) is not being "obedient to the faith".

The life of Christ will produce that in us because we are in Him - if we hear the word of Christ in order to grow up - or we just end up making a religion out of "not sinning" and it masquerades for Christ's life manifesting in us.

There are 2 aspects to grace. The very first thing that Jesus does with the woman caught in adultery is that He gets rid of her accusers - the religious Pharisees that wanted to condemn her because the "bible" said so in the Old Covenant...she was to be stoned. ( the law condemns us )

Jesus was the only one qualified to condemn her but He didn't.

1) acceptance grace - which has nothing to do with our behavior -
as seen with the woman caught in adultery. Our Lord beautifully says " I do not condemn you".

It is in knowing you are not condemned that releases the other aspect of grace.

2) now, go and sin no more - this is empowering grace.

Empowering grace enables you to be who the Father sees you are in Christ now because you are a new creation in Him.

The religious mindset says to the woman caught in adultery - 'Do not sin and we will not condemn you."

The grace of God and the blood of Jesus speaks of better things in this New Covenant of grace!

"Knowing" that we are not condemned in Christ "releases" the life of the empowering grace to transform us. It's all about Christ! It's His fruit being manifested in us!

Acceptance grace which is not based on our behavior needs to be cemented in our hearts before empowering grace is able to be manifested.

What believers in a self-effort/self-performance D.I.Y. holiness/righteousness based mindset and the self-appointed "fruit inspectors" have a very hard time with is the "acceptance grace" part...this just drives them nuts...and I understand why..it is scandalous and it "conflicts" with our religious man-made traditions.

Yep!...Faith comes from hearing and hearing from the word of Christ.

Whenever grace is being discussed and asked about - I love to show the Lord's love and grace towards the woman caught in adultery. It shows both aspects of the grace of our Lord Jesus.

The first aspect is that He doesn't condemn us and knowing this releases the empowering aspect of His grace and life in and through us.

I'll keep posting the truth of the wonderful gospel of the grace of Christ. I'm not ashamed of it.

And no about of mocking or insults will deter me from speaking about the wonders of our precious Lord's work and love for us.

Is there a difference between love and "the works" of love?

Does Gal 5:6 say faith is energized by the works of love?

Or does Gal 5:6 say faith is energized by love?

I believe Gal 5:6 says the latter. Perhaps to you, "the works of" love is the same as "love". They are not the same to me.

Can you clarify? Is "the works of" love the same as "love"? Thank you.
Yes, there is love, as in your own love, and there is the Love of God that "works" in a born again Christian by the Spirit.

Compare Gal 5:6 and the word which works G1754 to other verses concerning God who works in His anointed...

For [SUP]G1063[/SUP] in [SUP]G1722[/SUP] Jesus [SUP]G2424[/SUP] Christ [SUP]G5547[/SUP] neither [SUP]G3777[/SUP] circumcision [SUP]G4061[/SUP] availeth [SUP]G2480[/SUP] any thing, [SUP]G5100[/SUP] nor [SUP]G3777[/SUP] uncircumcision; [SUP]G203[/SUP] but [SUP]G235[/SUP] faith [SUP]G4102[/SUP] which worketh [SUP]G1754[/SUP] by [SUP]G1223[/SUP] love. [SUP]G26

[/SUP]
And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh [SUP]G1754[/SUP] all in all.

But all these worketh [SUP]G1754[/SUP] that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh [SUP]G1754[/SUP] miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

[TABLE="class: bibleTable"]
[TR="class: bVerse"]
[TD][/TD]
[TD]Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh [SUP]G1754[/SUP] in us,[/TD]
[/TR]
[/TABLE]

For it is God which worketh [SUP]G1754[/SUP] in you both to will and to do [SUP]G1754[/SUP] of his good pleasure.

So again, like I said before it is not our own love, but God's Love that works in us. :)

JESUS did not get rid of her accusers. They, after HE said, the one without sin should be the first to cast the stone, went away from HIM showing that they were convicted both of their own sins as welll as not believing who

I asked concerning this back in 2015

Brought it up here

Hey isnt it true that the whole scene between the woman and stoning thing is not in the earliest manuscripts?

Since that one is pulled up using half the story by one set of folks and the other half by another set of folks, when it might not be in there at all.

Anyone know for sure on the manuscript deals?

From my studies you are correct.

Codex Oliff (sp), Codex A, Codex B, Codex L, Codex W plus 5000 papyri do NOT have this story.

Codex Be-zii (sp) does have this story. This is an old manuscript - circa 550 A. D. This manuscript resides today at Cambridge.

Codex oliff is 200 years older, and theologians consider this one of the best and very reliable, and It does not have it included.
There was another post on it here but I dont know where that one is and on others forums I had asked

I can tell you here. I dont search this forum using their search (here) but I use of google's with what I am searching for along with the name of the forum and user name in the conversation. By using this forums search you wont find anything until next year use googles (for here) and if the thread is a mile long (and google didnt take you to the exact page use the "search this thread" feature and graze a little more speedily for the same thing (from that point).

You did well on your searches you found what you were looking for, it looks like you used google to, and left the link (which I always appreciate).

I dont think its THAT fast takes some searching, but I have nothing better to do sometimes (so I do it).

Another aspect that goes with "fruit inspectors" is just what is fruit? And what does this fruit look like. What if as an analogy a Christian is like an orange tree?

An orange tree is still an orange tree even though it doesn't produce the fruit we want to see in the timeframe we think it should. What happens if this orange tree dies before it has had a chance to be fed properly to grow up to be able to produce the fruit of a ripe orange?

To some works-based people - you would have to display 50 oranges in order to prove you are a real orange tree ( saved ) - to others you need 100 oranges in order to be a proved orange tree. ( saved ) So, this fruit inspection thing is not viable ..that's for God to look at people to determine if they are in Christ or not.

A person could have love and kindness as a fruit in their life but be addicted to some pills or alcohol which they are continuing to struggle with in their life.

The people that don't have a struggle with alcohol ( or basically anything that they themselves don't struggle with in their flesh that others do ) will condemn the ones that do have these struggles in the flesh and declare they don't have the fruit and thus are not saved. This is Pharisee-ism at it's finest.

Does the orange tree stop being an orange tree even though it dies without having fruit that we think "proves" it was an orange tree to begin with?

What if Christians were like that? What if we fed them messages about the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness in Christ so that they could grow? Then they would produce an abundance of fruit because it would be the very life of Christ manifesting - without Him - we can do nothing - even "doing good works" that are pleasing to God.

I say let's preach and teach the grace of Christ in their lives so that they have the proper nutrients to grow up in Him!

There is much confusion over this term " freed from sin" in Romans 6 which if not looked at correctly will lead to all kinds of strange doctrines that deny the work of Christ for salvation and actually create works-based doctrines of men which are actually against Christ's work on the cross, burial, resurrection and ascension.

In order to understand Romans 6-7 ( and then finally chapter 8 where the Spirit comes in ) we need to understand the difference between "sin" and "sinning".

Not knowing this leads to all kinds of doctrines like this "sinless perfection" one that some try to promote in that they never give in to the flesh and sin ( the verb ). This false doctrine will upset the faith of the young Christian and really in the end promote turmoil in their minds and upset their faith.

This will also create a works-righteousness mindset instead of a faith-righteousness one that is completely fixed on Christ's completed work for the believer.

We will always have the flesh with us and anyone that says they never are "sinning" have a very low opinion of the holiness of God and are only thinking of the "biggie sins" which they don't do.

Malice and slander and things like these ( Gal. 5:21 ) are just as destructive as living a homosexual lifestyle.

There is a difference between sin the noun and sinning the verb. Set free from sin does not mean set free from sinning entirely the rest of one's life.

Sin the noun has been guaranteed in the flesh which is why the Holy Spirit circumcised our hearts ( where He lives and is joined as one in the spirit with us) from the body of flesh.

Romans chapter 6 and 7 uses the noun "sin" 48x times ( which speaks of the law of sin that is in our flesh ) and only once as the verb which is the action of "sinning".

Here is what Vine's describes this "law of sin" that is in the flesh - acting through the members of our body when we yield to it.

"a governing principle or power, e.g.,
Rom. 6:6; "(the body) of sin," here "sin" is spoken of as an organized power, acting through the members of the body, "

Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old Testament and New Testament Words.

The set free from sin ( the noun ) is relating to not having to be subject anymore to the flesh because we have been sealed in our spirit in our inner man in Christ. - the new creation in Him.

The law of sin is in the flesh and will be there until we leave this earth. Romans 7:19-22. which is where we are not "in the flesh" as Paul says in Romans 8:9 : BUT "in the Spirit".

Colossians 2:11 (NASB)
[SUP]11 [/SUP] and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;

Now we are to walk by the Spirit so that we will not fulfill the flesh to do "its" desires. Romans 6:13

As our minds get renewed to the truth of Christ and what He has already done for us ( such as we are now the righteousness of God in Christ ) - the Holy Spirit transforms us and we live a holier life.

This is all God's work but we participate in it with Him. ( sometimes this is also called the saving of the soul which the mind is a part of )

I asked for clarification because the words "the works of" were added to the verse. I try to understand what someone means when he/she adds to Scripture. I believe God was very careful when He spoke what He wanted written so I am careful in quoting Scripture or when others quote Scripture. I also try to understand when others give their understanding of Scripture.

Here is another verse to add to those you posted:

1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh [SUP]G1754[/SUP] also in you that believe.

Here is what
Helps[SUP]TM[/SUP] Word Studies says about G1754:

1754 energéō (from 1722 /en, "engaged in," which intensifies 2041 /érgon, "work") – properly, energize, working in a situation which brings it from one stage (point) to the next, like an electrical current energizing a wire, bringing it to a shining light bulb.

The truth remains the same no matter how many times it is said. I love to read truth over and over again.

As, I told you before no amount of mocking or insults to malign me will deter me from proclaiming the goodness and grace of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. What He has done for us is amazing and truly awesome. We have a great salvation in Him.

I am not ashamed of the gospel of the grace of Christ and I still say to all of us:

"I say let's preach and teach the grace of Christ in their lives so that they have the proper nutrients to grow up in Him!"

All is well....:)...Bless you!
