The Holy Spirit dwells in all Christians.

Not possessing miraculous gifts doesn't mean a person is not a Christian.
the only gift anyone should be concerned with and praise God for daily is the gift of a new heart and spirit that can worship Him in spirit and truth. All other gifts are to be for His glory and edify His church not anything else.

once money, selfishness, pride, etc come into the person hearts then the spiritual gifts are either removed or tainted until repentance occurs. spiritual gifts are given with the unction of the Holy Spirit and not directly connected to salvation.

Matthew 6

1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.[a

anyway nit all.

The Holy Spirit dwells in all Christians.

Not possessing miraculous gifts doesn't mean a person is not a Christian.

I'm sorry I had to run off. I like when we're actually right there posting back and forth. Had a grandbaby that needed attention.

There's a difference in saying Jesus is Lord. Like a person can say Jesus is Lord and not mean any thing by it. Or one saying Jesus is Lord and meaning it and not even really knowing what it means.

Being baptized is a action a person does to show the world they believe in God. It is a step a Christian does. Even Jesus was baptized and what happened. The Holy Spirit came and landed on him. He did this to show us we had to have the Holy Spirit. Jesus had to be filled with power.

The verses I put up showed the first baptizing was a sign of being washed cleaned and being forgiven of sin.

Your right a person is a Christian just because they believe in God. They don't even need to be baptized and they are still a Christian. The second they really mean Jesus is Lord they are washed clean of sin that they confessed to. Not to mention too much to change topic but most need time to know what sins they still need to confess to after they have said Jesus is Lord....that's part of being reborn. The Lord showing all kinds of things you had sinned in and didn't even know you were sinning. Being reborn changing from that old person to the new person trying to be better like Christ from here on.

Some people when having the baptizem actually get baptized by fire right then. They have a awesome story of this glory feeling thing happening. But you don't hear of this too often.

From what I have seen most get it later.

I never understand the people that want to go back and forth on why in the world would I want gifts from God. That just plain bewilders me. Why would anyone not want gifts from God. If you could be used by your God to help another person why would you not want this. Say the Lord wanted to give you healing hands and he could pour healing power through your body to save anothers life and all you did was believe in your God and say Jesus.

Why would a child of God not want to help another human. I don't and never will understand this view.
Acts 3

6But Peter said, Silver and gold (money) I do not have; but what I do have, that I give to you: in [the [a]use of] the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!

Acts 1

Amplified Bible (AMP)

Acts 1

5For John baptized with water, but not many days from now you shall be baptized with ([a]placed in, introduced into) the Holy Spirit.

Shows there was no infilling of the Holy Spirit. Part of how you think is right that a person has the Holy Spirit when they say Jesus is Lord. He talks to you. But he was talking before you were even baptized that's how he calls people by talking to them. Before you were even saved God is talking to you. Your going to do something wrong and your told that is wrong. But he doesn't come live in someone until he is invited.

Inviting God to come live in you is what saying Jesus is Lord is about. That is still different than being infilled with Holy Ghost fire power of God. The world is in the mess it's in now because there are so many Christians who carry no power of God in them because of lack of knowledge or bad teaching.

30While You stretch out Your hand to cure and to perform signs and wonders through the authority and by the power of the name of Your holy Child and Servant Jesus.

Acts 4

31And when they had prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continued to speak the Word of God with freedom and boldness and courage.

This was after the tongues of fire thing. This was more people being filled with fire power of God.

People always talk of the 12. Well there was 120 in the upper room being filled with power of God then they went out and 3000, 5000 more pretty much blows only the 12 right out of the water.

Free will. Anyone can live three whole life with no power of God if that is what they chose so be it.

Acts 1:8.... They are speaking about the spostles. Not ALL Christians.

Also, read all of 1 Cor 12, 13.
You will read that gifts were given to people to help prove Gods devine nature. IT was used to prove the Word of God because the written record of the bible was not completed yet.
Jesus was divine it didn't need to be proven. The gifts were to help people in life.

8To one is given in and through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] a message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] a word of knowledge and understanding according to the same [Holy] Spirit; 9To another [[b]wonder-working] faith by the same [Holy] Spirit, to another the extraordinary powers of healing by the one Spirit;
10To another the working of miracles, to another prophetic insight ([c]the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose); to another the ability to discern and distinguish between [the utterances of true] spirits [and false ones], to another various kinds of [unknown] tongues, to another the ability to interpret [such] tongues.
11All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired and brought to pass by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses.
12For just as the body is a unity and yet has many parts, and all the parts, though many, form [only] one body, so it is with Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

This for the church. You and I are the church. Jesus had been doing his healings and all. This what you should be doing in the name of Jesus.

what does it mean to be born again?

Sadly lots of people are saved and never born again. The old man is still all they are about. They never go onto change at all. Are they even really saved. Part of my life is having to tell people over and over they better get rid of their hate.

isn't baptism of both water and Spirit?

John 3
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

That's a very good verse. Most stay the same flesh forever. They never get reborn at all.

that is referring to all disciples of Christ not just the apostles.

...note this is considered "earthly" things by Jesus

"12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? "

Very sad.

  1. Matthew 3:11
I indeed baptize you in (with) water because of repentance [that is, because of your changing your minds for the better, heartily amending your ways, with abhorrence of your past sins]. But He Who is coming after me is mightier than I, Whose sandals I am not worthy or fit to take off or carry; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Matthew 3:10-12 (in Context) Matthew 3 (Whole Chapter)
  2. Matthew 3:16
And when Jesus was baptized, He went up at once out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he [John] saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him.
Matthew 3:15-17 (in Context) Matthew 3 (Whole Chapter)
  3. Mark 1:8
I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
Mark 1:7-9 (in Context) Mark 1 (Whole Chapter)

With all due respect, learn about water baptism then you can tell me whether or not I have been BORN AGAIN.

Like I sad, the Holy Spirit dwells in all Christians.

With all due respect this young man is very skilled in the teachings of God. He believes the word of God and not trying to be rude, you don't believe in the word of God. We have put the word of God before you. You need to seek counsel of God and be a believer. I know you would be a great gift to the church once you were empowered by God almighty.

oh I thought we were talking about the Holy Spirit baptism, not miraculous gifts. have we changed topics?

Seems she has something about the gifts makes it wrong or something. She seems very nice. But always brings up about the gifts. Holy Spirit trying to tell her to have gifts I think. But that goes against her man teachings. God bless you so much Elizabeth.

One is talking about gifts, the other is talking about being born again(baptism), Obviously water baptism doenst mean one is born again....but I wouldnt expoect some to understand that.

I am pretty sure that I am a Christian. I don't have to PROVE that to anyone on a message board.

What I was saying is just bc someone is Christian doesnt mean the WILL possess gifts.

If the bible says so then they should. Pretty sure your a Christian??? I'm sure you are. Just got your teachings mixed up. I always thank God I wasn't raised in that wrong teachings. Just as easy could have been me.

I have not once attacked your age. So no need to throw that out. I was actualy 15 when I became a Christian.

You are right, you have to do more than just believe and be saved. You have to be baptized. Then the Holy Spirit will dwell in you.

I believe that we agree, but where I am talkign about baptism of the holy spirit is...some think that you WILL posess miraculous gifts. It is stated in the bible that not all Christians possessed gifts.

Someone aint gotta raise the dead to be a Christian.
To me, the gifts wre performed to prove of Gods existence. So others would believe.

I believe already. I dont NEED gifts. Now, IF and I mean IF God gave hem to me I wouldnt reject them, but I dont believe he will.

Right on point that's the whole reason I bring this up. God wants his people empowered and as long as you don't want what he has it won't happen.

Ok, fine. I am going to go try to raise a dead person now.
I will be back in a hour to let you know how it works out.

Raising the dead is a GIFT ya know.

Everyone always brings up raising the dead. First your making fun of God and if I was you I'd repent. You don't mock God. I don't know many who have that gift but I have heard it happens. But I know all kinds of people who have the gifts. Lots that have way more than one gift. None of us are more better than anyone else. We believe the word of God.

I was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Also, I didn't get baptized just to say I was Christian. I was overcome with SOMETHING that helped me make that decision.
Jesus said that no man comes to Him unless the Father draws him to Him. God bless and keep you in Jesus Christ always, my sister..........

What calling did God give me?
Seriously man....you are going overboard.

Keep in mind that Christianity is about a persons PERSONAL relationship with God among other things.

You are acting as if I should prove things to you. I have nothing to prove to another person. Only God.

Anyway, I am off here for a while.

I will continue this later when my brain is functioning a little better. I iz TIRED

I haven't ever seen him be mean. He's trying to make you think Elizabeth so you can see what God wants you to do.

Like for me I know part of my calling was about compassion. I have a bleeding heart. I have since I was little. So that works in God has me praying all the time for lost souls. And he said I would be used to bring many souls to him.

That compassion is a gift. God is compassion.

When he started giving me gifts he would tell me to do things. He wanted to see if I was going to obey. If I would know it was him talking to me. Like he told me to shake a rattle in church. The music was over and I felt silly. I knew he told me to shake the rattle. But I didn't. Some other lady shakes her tambourine and I felt bad cause I disobeyed. He was checking me out. To see if he could use me. I didn't want to disobey. All Christians should want to be used by God any way he wants right.

Then things like this lady who had a fall, was some what brain damaged. She had set out and got sun burned really bad, 3rd degree. I was new at this gift stuff. The elders came to get my step mom to go pray for the lady.

The Lord told me to go too. I'm thinking I'm new at this. I don't know what to do. But I didn't want to disobey God. So I went. He told me to put my hand on her. So I did. Pain came into my hand. Hurt. The pain went up my arm. The Lord was letting me feel her pain. I prayed better when I knew how she felt.

I don't think the church at that time was learned enough or had enough faith in them to do great miracles in his name. But God was using this situation to train me in him. The ladies body was part paralyzed from the fall that hurt her brain. I wasn't being given the gift of healing hands yet I was being trained to be a higher level intercessor. There are levels in everything so don't jump on me.

There is a gift of God, of feeling other peoples pain, sadness things going on with them.

The lady died a few years later. God had connected this lady and me. I had moved out of town and one day I just started crying my head off. I was so sad and hurt. I knew it wasn't me. A few days later I found out that lady had died. I was feeling her mothers pain.

To deal with feeling others pain was very hard for me and took me a long time to understand. For one thing you have to learn how to give it over to God. Or you can actually live in someone else's feelings. Not cool. You can take on thier sickness or depression and you have to be careful.

And I didn't know hardly anyone else who had this kind of gift. So I couldn't get counsel.

Or this man had cancer. I didn't know him. I knew his wife. I kept getting a vision of me praying in his front yard. I think today I would do it differently.

But since I was new. I kept seeing me in his yard praying. I told the pastor but he was still baby so he couldn't help me. And ignored me. So I told the ladies group at church.

The man wasn't saved.

So we all went to his yard. I took scripture for God to heal him and scripture for God to release him if he wasn't going to be healed.

Because of the cancer he did except God.

So there we were in his yard. I went to where I was in the vision. This other lady went with me. She had did the same as me. Had both kinds of scripture. The others went other places in the yard. WE all prayed.

The ones who were in the area of where he drank told demons to get.

WE prayed and then all got together and prayed. While we were there praying the Lord told me the man was going to get a bump on his stomach and it was going to explode and the Lord was going to take him home.

What do you do with that information. The next day he got a big bump...a cyst. They rushed him to the hospital and it burst and he died.

That was my begining. The lady who went with me at the praying she was to have mighty gifts of God. But she remains not doing what God has called her to do. To hide or bury the talents is dangerous. They are meant to be used.

We both were given the gift of healing hands in Jesus but she was too shy. The Lord even had me tell her she had to be bold. She would not. I found out years later another had been told to tell her she has to be bold. She would not. That means people could be healed through her hands but she will not step out of the boat.

To disobey God leaves the doors open for Satan to attack. She has a wonderful heart. But she should have gotten over thinking of herself and how shy or scared she is and do what she is told. She has sickness after sickness after sickness. Life and death stuff all the time.

As far as the personal relationship that's the point you are your testimony. When you tell how you feel about God that's how you bring them to God. We should all figure out what our callings are so we can do them. Be our destinies the good plan God made for us before we were born. Instead of the what is my destiny. We all have gifts and talents given by God even if it's not all about holy gifts.

Like if you bake the greatest cookies you will be used by God some how in that area. Cookies will be involved. Am I making since.

I'm sorry. I just pray all of Gods people will step into the anointing s God wants for them. We should all be praying to be used.

loveschild.
I will say that I have a huge respect for you. You seem to be very passionate about your beliefs, and I am not going to sit here and tell you that you are wrong because I interpret the scriptures differently.

I have my beliefs, and being a member of CC and even debating with you and others has lead me to go back and study the scriptures more than I have in ages. I will say that I stand by my beliefs, but you have been good for me and my spirituality. I am studying more.

As far as what gifts God has given me well, I will say he gave me a huge gift. His son. Without that we all would be lost. He also gave me, and everyone else the gift to make choices and decide from right and wrong.

Now, I will admit that it would be great if I did possess a gift to heal others in the name of God or possess other miraculous gifts but I don't. I can however pray. Ask God to heal a person if it be his will. I believe prayer does alot, and I also believe that eventhough God does bless us on earth our reward is in Heaven. I would never reject anything God gave me, but I guess what I am saying is I don't need certain things to keep my faith or to prove my faith.

I personally think that setting a good example is a great way to prove ones faith to others. Being humble and loving as well is good too.

Our views differ when it comes to the miraculous gifts. I am not saying you are wrong, and I am right but how I am understanding the scriptures it is saying that gifts have ceased. You disagree with that, and I respect that....and I am not trying to end this debate, but I guess say that we may just need to agree to disagree.

You are a strong woman and strong in your beliefs, and I hope to NEVER condemn you for believing differently, but when I think it comes to the core purpose of Christianity and the bible that we do agree.

Being as only certain denominations believe in baptism of hte holy spirit then NO. I have not been baptized by the holy spirit in order to recive miraculous gifts.

Baptizing of the HOly spirit happens when you become saved. That's when the holy spirit comes to live inside you:)

I agree, but I was referring to being given gifts.
I was baptized for the remission of my sins, not to recieve gifts.
I felt I needed to be baptized to be forgiven and have my name written in the book of life.

Becoming a Christian set you apart from others. When you are a Christian you are given a gift, and that is eternal life.

you don't have to be baptized to be forgiven its just a sign that you are forgiven. When you're saved you're given your gift, but you have to mature in Christ to learn what it is and how to use it :D
