And they went down—They alighted from the chariot into the water. While Philip was instructing him, and he professed his faith in Christ, he probably plunged himself under the water, as this was the plan which appears to have been generally followed among the Jews in their baptisms; but the person who had received has confession of faith was he to whom the baptism was attributed, as it was administered by his authority.

Being baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit while being immersed in water was commanded by the Lord.
Peter makes this very clear in Acts 2:38, 10:47, and 1 Peter 3:21......

Acts 2:38 is not water but Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 3:21 is not salvitic but symbolic.

Well, if one can loose it then ALL will cook.....there is not a just man upon the earth that does good and sins not.....for those who use the (blotted) out scriptures as proof I suggest a re-evaluation as they are all tied to UNBELIEF...my bible teaches me a few things like...

1. I am SEALED with the Holy Spirit of Promise unto the day of buyback
2. I am in the hand of the Father and the SON\
3. My salvation is based upon the perfect FAITH OF JESUS
4. My justification is based upon the PERFECT FAITH OF JESUS
5. What God does it is ETERNAL
6. Eternal means eternal...not temporary
7. My spirit is BORN again and DOES not sin as HIS SEED remaineth in ME
8. NO ONE can do enough work to keep, gain or facilitate salvation as it is a free GIFT that is GIVEN by the act of genuine faith into the resurrection of JESUS.....
9. Saved children of God can and do sin, fall and get back up without LOOSING salvation
10. Fellowship can be broken by sin, but SONSHIP does not change as a son is eternally a son by BIRTH!

Acts 2:38 is not Holy Spirit baptism, as if you look at the scripture the Holy Spirit is administered to them after they were baptized in His name. It is two separate events that happen concurrent here;

[h=1]Acts 2:38[/h]38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
(Baptized first then they receive the Holy Spirit)

And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The bible also says the disobedient son will find their part in the lake of fire too............

Luke 12:46

the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

First of all I wont argue any more Kenneth as you consistently twist and miss eternal truths that contradict your view...

Second the bible teaches that God is the FATHER of ALL......even the LOST who are considered disobedient...so...keep trusting yourself and your works amigo!

I usually don't like to get into the cross fire in the threads aha. And I am honestly not fighting with you but..your post here caught my attention. Where at in the bible does it say even those who are lost are God's sons? Cause I'm dumb and need to hear differen't view points to learn.

Right now I'm at a point where I want to believe God wouldn't let us lose salvation and I'd like to believe in OSAS. I also don't believe that this means you can run around and do as you please even if its against God. But I've been looking into the "losing salvation" argument side. And regardless if we can or not I agree with what you said that it has to be on our part and not God's part. I don't see God just taking someone's salvation from them.
I believe in OSAS. Either Jesus died for your sins or He did not. While it may be possible to have one's name blotted out of the book of life the bible does not say that it will indeed happen, only that it is possible.

Luke 12 is a good chapter as it talks about the disobedient servant.
We are all servants of Christ if we are under Him, and here in this chapter it says that if He comes and finds us not doing His will in our lives. Then we are considered disobedient and will be given a place in the lake of fire with the unbelievers. Some do not like this chapter and want to change it, because they do not like to realize that we are required to do the will of God in our lives as the Lord makes it clear in this verse;

Matthew 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Then we have in Hebrews where it says that if you are not chastised by the Lord, meaning convicted through the Holy Spirit when you sin, then you are not sons.....Hebrews 12:5-8

Where was I arguing, as all I did was post scripture as to what else the bible said about being a disobedient servant.

One is saved by being convicted in their sins, asking Jesus Christ to come into their heart and be the Lord and Savior of their life, repenting of their sins and following him.

"Father, if it be Thy Will, open SeaBass' eyes to Your Truth. In Jesus' name I humbly pray. Amen."

Speaking of truth. Could you provide Scripture for "asking Jesus Christ to come into their heart and be the Lord and Savior of their life" ?

Bro Jesus is the only begotten son by birth.....we are sons through adoption...
Ephesians 1:5

That can only come from the Holy Spirit not by water baptism.

For the cause of Christ
Roger
so repent and be baptised and you shall receive the HS....isn't that what scripture says.....????
that is the promise....can you show me anywhere else in scripture where it is promised another way to receive the HS????...you can show others receiving the HS different ways but never recorded as a promise......

Setting OSAS aside. I have been following your posts and this is what I conclude:

  • You accepted your water baptism as your salvation
  • You have knowledge of what the God's Word (the Bible) says

You can not be saved through water baptism northe knowledge of God's Word.

By accepting water baptism as your salvation you are trying, within yourself, to live for God by holding yourself to God's standards, which is impossible.

Amen."
we are saved by grace through faith.....grace is ...the goodness of God leads us to repentance....faith is repent and be baptised for the remission of sins and you shall receive the HS...it is the promise.....where does the scripture say....
asking Jesus Christ to come into their heart and be the Lord and Savior of their life,
Jesus is at the door of your heart knocking....
Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

becca, are you sufficiently confused yet? (poor girl)

keep reading God's Word...keep listening to His Spirit.
best advice i can offer.

ellie
Yes I am very confused but will continue to read my Bible. All I know I should do (anyways) is to live like a Christian should so that I cannot lose my salvation.

Speaking of truth. Could you provide Scripture for "asking Jesus Christ to come into their heart and be the Lord and Savior of their life" ?
Romans 10- If thy confess with they mouth..

John 3:16- Believing on the Son

two to start with.. there are many many others. Though the specific words- ask Christ to come into your heart.. are not there..

believing in Jesus.. who then comes into your heart through the sealing of the Holy Spirit.. very much is. Which is the same thing in different words.
