I have to admit that on some guys, I do think long hair looks good and recognize that "long" is kind of a generalization and can be subject to interpretation by what's "long" in a culture.
That being said, I think most people try to dismiss what Paul wrote about men having short hair and women having long hair because it's convenient for them and they don't want to have to conform to it, either for personal comfort/preference, or because they don't want to look like outsiders. Paul never specified that those instructions were culture-specific and were only applicable to those he was directly writing to; and if that was culture specific, where does it end? That line of logic could be carried to all sorts of NT scriptures and leave it wide open to subjection to what people would prefer to do rather than what the Bible says.
Another thing:
[read in Spock voice] using the pictures of Jesus with long hair as a reason for a man to have long hair is highly illogical. Do you also believe that Jesus was a scrawny, Anglo-Saxon ginger hippy with pale blue eyes and carefully manicured, almond-shaped nails? Those images are figments of someone's imagination, not evidence to support a theological/lifestyle position. Ridiculous. He was a Jewish carpenter.
[End Spock voice]
(For the record, yes, I do follow those Scriptures and have long hair. I don't cover my hair because the Bible says that God gave a woman her hair for a covering
- in other words, it's all the covering I need.)
So yes, while I acknowledge that some men look good with long hair, I would not be okay with extremely long hair on my man. Around shoulder length (or a bit shorter) is probably the cut off point for me. (Pun intended.)
