Then I'd like to meet these morons,
so we can BOTH smack 'em upside the head!
If we are going to smack people upside the head, can I also join?

My family has had an uneasy two days since we got the news that my cousin brother, who is serving the Lord full-time, was electrocuted while fixing a spotlight. Ever since he joined the full-time ministry, which requires him to sever all personal ties and to maintain a life of celibacy, he has not been in contact with his family, not even with his parents and his siblings. So, the news about this accident was passed on to us from somebody we knew at church and that too, only after about 6-8 hours had passed.

We visited him today and his story has been nothing short of a miracle. He was told to adjust a spotlight when they had not even bothered to shut down the power supply. Perched on top of a mast that was about 20 feet in height, he was working on it with the assistance of another person, when he came in contact with a live wire carrying ~220V of supply. What followed was a struggle between life and death, between falling from that mast and landing into the hard ground below, because it took a few minutes for someone to run to the main supply and cut it off. It was only after the supply was cut off that he was able to recover from the shock and then climb down. Thankfully, he was able to walk, and he was brought in a car to his room to recover. As my church preaches that Divine Healing is the Ultimate Faith, they did not call a doctor or even administer basic first aid. All that he was given was a room to rest and a lot of fluids (fresh juice, Ensure, etc.)

Anyway... almost two days have passed and his right hand is still numb. His right leg is also numb. Nobody has even suggested that he gets himself checked, because that is an act of questioning God's ability to work miracles. What is even frustrating is that people blame it on the devil and call this a work of the devil, when this was clearly an irresponsible action by a human being, not to mention the consequent foolishness in not seeking medical attention.

My mom lost her brother at the age of 16, to a simple fever. My mom lost her mom to another fever. 13 years ago she lost her dad to diabetes and gangrene formation, leading to a cardiac arrest; I'll admit that it was best that God took him away, because there was little that medicine could have done, other than to amputate his leg. My mom has been an asthmatic ever since I was born, due to certain complications, for which she has never sought medical help. All suffering is justified in the name of Divine Healing and, being warriors of the faith, they are constantly encouraged to fight against the devil who, not only brings these sicknesses, but also sows seeds of doubts in their minds that drives them to seek medical attention.

So, you guys want to talk to me about Christians? I wouldn't touch Christians with a ten-foot pole. Thank you very much.

I dunno... there's an atheist where I work who is pretty chill. He doesn't argue about stuff all the time. He also is a willing worker, while a couple of christians are always standing around playing on their phones.

Mind you, I'm not saying christians are terrible employees. There are multiple christians where I work that are great workers. Just saying you can't broad-brush atheists.
As as side note, I'm sure Oncefallen wasn't steretyping atheists at all in his posts (and I'm not saying Lynx is saying that anyone was throwing them all into the same bucket, either.)

But I couldn't agree with Lynx more. I've mentioned before that the guy I married was an atheist. Cue lectures about being unequally yoked... Go!!!

But I grew up in all Christian schools, and the popular boys carried condoms in their wallets (which they showed off during basketball games) and bragged about going to the local strip club every weekend.

The guy I fell in love with was someone who fit a little of every genre (he was a sports/fitness enthusiast who played Magic the Gathering and loved to read), had never given himself away, took "a moment of silence before meals" (and here I almost always forget to pray before meals... Cue stoning, now... Go!), and here's the key thing, went to church with me every Sunday because he knew it was important to me. He also started reading the Bible and said we would raise our children as Christians because he didn't believe in splitting up the family according to the parents not agreeing on beliefs (he'd seen too much of that in his own family.)

Sigh. Back in my early 20's, I had bigger and better dreams with a so-called atheist than I ever did with a Christian. (Cue 2nd stoning because the 1st one was obviously unsuccessful... Go!!)

Roh, I just saw your post...

Thank you, as always, for sharing with us.

Good grief. I always feel so... Well I always feel like I never have a right to complain about ANYTHING when you talk about the trials you face in your own church and country...

But I'm VERY thankful that you keep us AWARE!!!

I typically take great pains to not paint any group of persons with the broad brush of sterotypes. I was speaking very specifically of the two atheists that I know that I happen to work with. One of the two if Christianity happens to make it into a conversation visibly becomes quite hostile and agitated.

Christians SHOULD be the best employees, business owners, etc. according to scripture, but unfortunately all too many persons who claim Christianity apparently have never come across Colossians 3:23 or Ephesians 6:7 that say we should do ALL things as unto the Lord. Yes, I've had a couple of those work for me in past years. that have tried to play the "Christian brother" card when they were terminated.

I know you weren't broad-brushing, bro. Perhaps I should have worded it different. I just wanted to make sure we didn't give the impression ALL atheists were argumentative. Sorry for the implied accusation.
