The problem is that the stated goal is different than the actual goal. It is confining solutions, and forcing you down a specific path, instead of letting you solve it your own way.
Being locked in a room of pizzas sounds like a lot more fun.
The stated goal with all of the company outings is to build relationships, and better teams, and interactions with the workers.
Since this is one of those "you don't have to go" but you really do things; I guess I will find out what it is like in a bit. :]

When I first read your original post, for some reason, I was thinking about being locked into a small, confined space... with a co-worker who literally never stops talking, always thinks they're right, and/or has extreme B.O.

I don't know about anyone else, but THAT would definitely give me Room to Panic... I'd be solving puzzles like crazy just to get the hee haw away from that person.

Maybe that's because there are the wrong players on the team.

I just got an email from work announcing the Q1 work outing. They will be doing this thing called a panic room.
Basically, they lock you, and a group, into a room that is filled with puzzles. In order to get out of the room, you must solve the puzzles.
I am not enthusiastic about this prospect at all. I like challenges and excel at them usually, but this doesn't sound like fun to me. It is an artificial entrapment. That alone isn't what bothers me, it is that the expected solution to escape is to solve the puzzles. I'm a very 'out of the box' type thinker. If I were to be locked in one of these 'panic' rooms, I could certainly get out, I have no doubt of that, but I doubt my solutions to the problems would likely fall in the scope of what the creators intended.

So the goal is then not to escape but solve the puzzles, though the stated goal is to escape.

Reminds me of Algebra- You can't just solve it, you need to show how you solved it, and that has to match how you are supposed to solve it.
I didn't like Algebra.

I hate that. Not the puzzles, but having to figure out how they want you to solve the puzzles.
I hated algebra passionately. If it worked, why do you need to know how I did it? If my method works, it's just as correct as your method (albeit not always as graceful or efficient). This is why I loved my GED prep math teacher... bless his heart. "It doesn't matter how you solve it. Just solve it. In fact, here are some methods you aren't technically supposed to use that work..."

And when I got my GED... He bought me a pizza.
That man was awesome.

I agree with this, with the exception of the military. A small squad of highly trained military can do amazing things under pressure and they will willingly sacrifice themselves to save their buddies. Office workers on the other hand will probably focus on trying to make themselves look good or engage in a childish power struggle...


and just have to put this out there... algebra is awesome!

I may or may not have more people wondering who I'm going to end up with than the victims on The Bachelorette do [that show is awful... I once sat through two episodes in what was apparently a subconscious effort to prove to myself that faith in humanity is completely unfounded and that there are stupid humans in the world who must needs to be avoided at all costs]. My friends keep telling me that this mythical creature called "The One" is going to have to be (and I quote) "unique," "special," and/or "different." Then they feel compelled to clarify that they mean that in the best way possible.

I believe that it is 50 posts to become a member and 100 posts to become a senior member. I believe that at the 50 post mark you also receive your first rep power. Most members who exclusively chat will never go beyond being a junior member. On this site you have 2 types of peeps - the chat peeps and the forum peeps. I am a forum peep and rarely will go visit chat as I don't know anybody there and it seems just like a lot of meaningless babble to me.

Has anyone else ever noticed that in close quarters BO starts to smell like pizza?

I mean truly, it does, and it's very unnerving. It's slowly burning out your olfactory nerves or something, because BO is not pizza.
