Chris Rock made a film/documentary on women (black/ethnic) in particular & their hair. All the junk they go through. It was a really cool film on many levels.

I just watched the trailer for this, and now I'd love to actually see the documentary. I'm glad this was done.

It's a really good film, and it looks like it would be something that is just Chris Rock trying to make jokes & be funny, but it's actually really sad in some parts & some of the thing's the little girls (and even the adult women) say is heart breaking. He made this film really because of what his daughter came to him & said, and that got him thinking how he didn't want his child to grow up thinking she wasn't beautiful or not as valued as someone with "good hair". I've often recommended this film to many of my "white" female friends over the years, because even though the perspective is from the "black" community,it's still dealing with the issues of how women are indoctrinated at such a young age (no matter what their skin color is) that they have to look a certain way,be a certain weight,height,etc...image image image...not so much substance of character.
So,yes...iTORE gives it 2 thumbs up!:)

I wrote this extremely long poem for another thread we had about women's hair some time ago. I'm so proud of it that I'm posting it again. :p

Strands

O trestles sweet trestles
With such grace doth thou flow
Ashine with the brilliance
Of a sparkling meadow

By day or by night thy beauty resplends
Like a fine artist's mural
It's lure never ends..

I read this really really dumb article about how women who have short hair have mental issues.

I debated posting the link but frankly I'll skip it.

I happen to like hair that makes women feel comfortable, feel pretty or simply feel good about herself.

And I'm sure someone is going to put how long hair is a glory to a woman, thats fine.

I'm really not the hair police. In fact when it comes to a girl's hair, just about anything goes. (Unless your name is Cyndi Lauper, then you should just give up and buy a nice wig or something)

Examples of Misc Hair that I find attractive....

Long story Short, just do what you want to do. Don't feel like a vocal minority should determine how you should have your hair or not have your hair. If you want to do something do it. :)

At the end of the Day, its hair, it grows back.

Careful calling out Cyndi Lauper my daughter's landlord works on her tour. God loves Cyndi too. He hates the sin but loves the sinner.

I always had a soft spot in my heart for Cyndi Lauper. She's just too cool for school...and she was waaaaaaaaay ahead of her time in many ways. She certainly doesn't get the credit she deserves on many levels..as a woman..or musical artist.

This was on the news not to long ago. I felt bad for this girl, her hair didn't look bad to me. Their rules no Afro's or dreadlocks ,Mohawks, I can see some styles, huge hair that get's in the way, or neon colors or something, but there really isn't a lot a little black girl can do with hair. What's she supposed to do straighten it? She's only 7. This school would have hated the 80's.

I just find it insane that our culture in America (and elsewhere) just seemingly goes out of it's way to break the spirit of little girls. They do it with boys in different ways,I know. But...wow...the stuff women have to go through starting like at the youngest of ages is simply sickening to me. I think if I had the money & influence Chris Rock has & my daughter had come to me & said that about her hair..I'd have done the same exact thing. Being a parent is hard enough I'd imagine, but then to have your child (girl or boy) come to you with a question like "Why don't I have good hair?" is heartbreaking.
I think in some ways yet another reason I chose never to have my own biological children is because I don't know how Christ-like I could be if my daughter came home from school & told me that someone was putting her down because of her hair or skin color or weight or whatever it was.
I just can't understand why our society is so vile in it's behavior to women in particular. Ok,yes..I get it...it's all secular...they don't know Jesus...sin nature...blah blah blah...and I don't mean to make light of that. It's truth.
The thing is..Christians do this exact same type of thing, but just call it different names & put different labels on it. Not ALL Christians...but many. I've seen it. I once overheard a guy in my old church say the most disrespectful thing about his wife to another member once concerning her weight after they had their 3rd child. Mind you..this woman had just had a kid like 2 months prior... he made a comment about her needing to get to the gym to lose that baby fat. His wife was like 135 lbs...MAX!...she may have been like 115 before the kid...so he was dissin' his wife over 15lbs. This guy who was not in the peak of health himself...losing his hair...physically no Brad Pitt by any stretch...and aside from all that a Christian!
How dare any man (or woman) disrespect their spouse in that way???
And it spreads like a cancer to the children...and then you get these kid's in school being horrible to one another, from what they see on TV,movies and hearing the thing's their parents say about one another in front of them.

*sigh* I'm sorry...I didn't mean to have a moment here...I apologize to the OP.

But wait... most men have short hair... so what do THEY do in the winter? I don't see many guys walking around with earmuffs or scarves... I guess they're not considered manly accessories?

If women can push babies out of the womb, I doubt cold ears will bother them much. ;) (Besides, a lot of women with long hair like myself pull our hair back, leaving... exposed ears! Oh no!) :p

Back to the drawing board! :)

That last image of the long hair is definitely hair extensions. For those who missed it the first few times around.

I also got a bad hair cut in the summer after grade 7. (A long, long time ago!) I grew my hair long and kept it that way till about 8 years ago. Then I kept it shoulder length and hated every minute of it.

I keep hearing in church that older women should wear short hair. Magazines also say older women look bad with long hair.

I just am growing mine out and loving everything but the drying process. I really don't care how anyone wears their hair.
I just know for me, long hair and gray are going to make a big comeback, as I start a new trend!

My mom cut her hair short after having children for a while (a boy and a set of twin girls). I guess that could tell you a little something about kids and mental stability. :)

I did the same thing. Because babies grab hair. And it hurts. Haha.

I would mistake that person for being a man, so sure if women want a male haircut they shouldn't be offended if they get called "sir" sometimes
I had the long hair before I bulked up...so when I had 10lbs more hair and 40lbs less muscle mass, people who addressed me from behind (restaurant servers, store clerks and associates, etc) would say, "Can I help you, ma'am?"

Then they'd see my face and try to do their most graceful recovery. Which was never graceful.

But for as often as it happened, I was usually able to shrug it off...if I were a woman being mistaken for a man constantly, I probably would be more offended.

I'm actually growing my hair out right now. Its getting to be pretty glorious but, I've never seen what it looks like beyond where it is now. Its kind of exciting. :)
