I want to be a SAHM someday. Perhaps when they are all in school I can get a part-time job during the day, or somehow work at home, but still be available most of the time to do motherly things, take care of the house and pets, etc.
That's just my preference, though. I don't think women have to stay home, and I don't think women have to work either. I think it depends on what the financial situation is, what the couple decides on, and how the woman views her job. I also don't think that whether or not a woman stays home to raise the kids is an automatic indicator of how "good" of a mother she is. I know some women who work and still lovingly and successfully raise their kids.
I wonder if a lot of it is how you are raised? I didn't quite read every response in this thread, but I saw some responses of how they were raised is similar to how they want to be. Though it could be the opposite of what they want, i.e. "My mom was never home, so I want to stay at home with my kids."
My mom worked from home, thankfully she had a job that allowed her to do so. She stayed at home, and her mother helped out a bit as well, considering my mom had a 2 year old and infant twins! I'm not quite sure how much she worked, even from home, during that time. That's quite a handful in and of itself.
