But if you truly believe it, there'd be no need to repeat it over and over...is my point.
Repeating something doesn't make it come to pass.
Who said anything about repeating it? I don't have to say it any more than once..... although as I experience freedom from something, I do often thank Him again. Just as I am sure you have thanked Jesus more than once for your Salvation.
Repetitious prayers were the prayers of the pagan religions of the time.
Christians are to pray what is on their heart as to their Father in heaven knowing He hears their prayers.
Pagans prayed over and over again hoping to gain the attention of their deities. Deities of wood and stone which cannot hear.
Any resemblance to the RCC is purely coincidental.

Now, some things I have said repeatedly. When I am tempted, I tell satan he has no power over me.... when I may have already said the same thing last month or even last week.
The verse I have in my signature is something I have repeated probably a hundred times in the past couple of years. I need the reminding when my thoughts or actions do not reflect the fact that "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus."

There is the women with the issue of blood that was repeating to herself that Jesus would heal her if she could but touch the helm of his garment.
There are different types of manifestations of faith. The Centurion just said "Speak the word and my servant will be healed" We are all at different understandings in our walk with the Lord.
So, sometimes there is a need for saying repeatedly what we believe in order to cement the truth into our minds and there are other times that we only need to speak it once. ( the reality is that we have to believe first and not just mimic an action in a repetitive way without having first believed biblically )
The Holy Spirit will guide us in this. Where we get into error is when we say "It has to be this way or it is not faith".

[SUP]20 [/SUP] And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak;
[SUP]21 [/SUP] for she was saying to herself, "If I only touch His garment, I will get well."
This "was saying" is in the imperfect tense in Greek which is a continuous action in the past.

the meaningless repetition IMO would be like chanting or babbling like the greek oracles.
Jesus teaches on persistent prayer (Luke 18) so IMO there would be nothing wrong with many prayers for your lost dog.
I was stating my point. Who said anything about vain repetition? Did you read the title of the OP? I was trying to keep it to that topic.

Saying God's Word and memorizing it has been very helpful to me. "Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee" Knowing God's Word and memorizing it so we can say it at the right time has been majorly important to my life as a believer. Jesus said to use the written Word of God just as He did when satan tempted Him. He wants us to know the power of His Word for our lives. So much so that He set an example for us by knowing the Word in His heart and was able to use it when the enemy came at Him. Even Jesus used the Bible.
Saying the Word of God and memorizing it is important. Words said are important. Vain repetitions are thinking your many words will get you in good with God. Only Jesus will get you IN with God.
A bad trip to the orthodontist's left me with extremely acute and painful TMJ back in '88. We could do nothing for it. For a couple of months I was popping valium and drinking my meals because trying to chew dropped me to my knees in agony.
Some weird friends who believed in healing gave me a book by Charles & Francis Hunter, To Heal The Sick.. (I was stuck in the tradition of the CoC back then, and thought "healing" was foolishness.) I read it, and stood on some of the verses I read because I already knew them.
The TMJ ceased in a minute or two after I closed that book.
But, over the next week, or so, it tried to return several times. I repeated those verses (as best as I could remember them), and each time the pain immediately stopped again... until, finally, after about four repeated attacks, the enemy gave up and the pain ceased for good. It hasn't returned in 28 years.
But she wasn't healed until she actually touched Jesus. It wasn't her repetitions that healed her. It was Jesus.
Aren't just about all the "religious" things we do really for ourselves? The Bible clearly tells us He needs none of it.

Yes., saying God's Word many times during the day reminding our minds and hearts of the truths is always beneficial for us. Saying the Word of God is major. There is power in His Word. Power to overcome. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. How do we have more faith., by hearing and hearing and hearing His Word preached and by reading it and saying it over and over.
It's not to impress God., it's to help us and honor Him when we believe it and walk in it. Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

Charles and Frances Hunter? They had a book on 'inner healing' taking a person back to their childhood to be freed from the past. Pop Freud. Garbage, i'll stick with God's Word.
Meditate on it, certainly. But, I don't think chanting it numerous times in a row does a thing.
