New York Preacher Pregnant Out of Wedlock Says She Won’t Step Down From Pulpit | Christian News Network

A female preacher in New York who has become pregnant outside of wedlock says she won’t to step down from the pulpit, stating that she is not “sorry or ashamed.”
Desiree Allen serves as the pastor of arts and spiritual formation at First Corinthian Baptist Church in New York City, which also runs the non-profit Dream Center in Harlem.
Recently, Allen, who is engaged to be married, wrote a blog post outlining that she had discovered in May that she had become pregnant with twins.

“My immediate reaction was shock. This was not planned. Yes, I know it’s a potential consequence of having sex, but not one readily expected,” Allen wrote. “With the exception of living a pretty much celibate lifestyle in my twenties I had been having sex on and off since I was 15 and had never been pregnant. In fact, I assumed when I was ready it would be very hard for me to conceive. Boy, did I miscalculate that.”

That's was specifically addressing the church of corinth
That's specifically addressing a church with a member who was living in unrepentant sexual sin, or do we thrown out the entire New Testament because it was addressing specific churches (or persons) who are no longer around?

My thoughts? She ain't sorry. And if you can deliberately sin and not feel any type of sorry, you are in a bad spiritual place. Your conscience is far from God. (And when I say "you" and "your", I mean her...) It's concerning that she fornicated as a pastor, but I think it's even more concerning (and confusing) that she is just...not sorry.

There are parts of the Bible that are addressing specific people in a specific set of circumstances

And this set of circumstances is identical to those in 1st Cor 5.

That doesn't mean those circumstances never come up again. Fornication in the church is unfortunately not an uncommon circumstance. Today's people aren't that different from yesterday's people. So we can apply the Scriptures to today's world; God's Word is (still) alive.

Exactly... we need to remember 2 Tim 3:16,7

To me it's a red flag to study when someone claims certain passages only apply to one person or one group and is not applicable to us today.

That is the case sometimes, but many times it's not and a preacher will say this to indicate he belongs to Cherry-Pickers-R-Us (people who treat the Bible as a buffet... picking and choose what they'll accept and what they'll reject based on their own ideas rather than the Lord)

2 Timothy 3:16-17New American Standard Bible (NASB)[SUP]16 [/SUP]All Scripture is [SUP][a][/SUP]inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for [SUP][b][/SUP]training in righteousness; [SUP]17 [/SUP]so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Your statement then can be used for the entire bible. The verse above doesn't say anything about some parts of the Bible but the entire Bible. We can't sit here and cherry pick what scripture we want to adhere to and what we don't want to.

I should have just liked your statement. Didn't read it until I posted mine :)

She's probably congratulating herself for throwing off those old "patriarchal" chains. You know, because they don't matter anymore.

My first thought is----
Why would a church name itself after the church at Corinth with all its moral problems?
So why doesn't the church remove her?

We live in a world where, each new day I read the news, and say all over again,
"That's the weirdest thing I ever heard."

Not surprised. I am finding that so many of the few left that call themselves Christians, have no problem with rebelling against God.

If you are speaking of her Congregation........that was my question also...........and is this particular church part of any Baptist Association? If so, what are they doing about this?
