Psalm 4
8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.
Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORDforever.
Matthew 11
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Rest for our soul does not equal do nothing....it means taking His yoke and doing His good works for His glory.
It means peace and joy only God can give.
It means peace and joy only God can give.
Resting in Christ means not striving to earn God's love but having faith and accepting that God really does love you and nothing you DO can make Him love you more or less. He adopted you and you really are His kid.
Trusting in the finished work of the cross is having faith that what Jesus did was enough to wash you clean of your sins and allow you to be adopted by God through His Holy spirit.

We have these scriptures for the finished work of the cross...
John 19
28Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Colossians 2
13And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
