Because it's being eaten, and later on, peed/ pooped back out... That's why meat should be well cooked first, and not consumed raw.. Blood transfusions are different, they go to the parts of the body that need the blood.

the Lord seems to be concerned with the "life" that is contained in the blood. thats what He does not want mixing in the body, what difference does it make how the blood gets in there?

The difference is in context.

Also, it was said only to ancient Jews, not to us in the New Covenant.

JWs dont mix blood because the bible says not to mix blood.

Deuteronomy 12:23
Only be sure that you do not eat the blood, for the blood is the life, and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.

this is one of many passages that teach this.
I have read this interpretation before, and it always makes me wonder...

Would the people who don't believe in blood transfusions because of this passage then say that those who have been saved by them (such as some of people in this thread) should have just been allowed to die rather than be given a blood transfusion, because they believe that this would have been God's will--to just stand by and watch them die, when something could have obviously saved them?

I truly mean that as an honest question. For myself, I couldn't just stand by and let someone pass when all it would take to save them is something I apparently have a little extra of anyway.

I'm signed up for my next blood drive donation in about two weeks. The last two times I came close to passing out, but I find that a small price to pay in order to save another persons's life.

I know some will see this as being some sort of heresy, but personally, I've always seen this passage as a good reason TO give blood.

If the life of the flesh is in the blood, and the Bible says that there is no greater love than to give your life for another person, in donating blood, you are literally giving a part of your life to another person in order to help them live.

yeah one instance is taking and consuming that life force, the other is giving it to give and make life.

is it wrong for a mother to give the baby in her, her blood?

NO, it isn't. Babies need that blood to grow, and survive, just as grown humans do.. :)

So, what is the reason for jehovah witness to not accept these? When i studied with them, they believe that God does not accept B.T. and O.D. I question this every time it pops up in my head because doesnt God love life? If so, why doesnt he accept this?
they tie blood transfusion to the command not to eat blood.

God told Noah not to eat blood ((Genesis 9:4)) and then in the Law of the Sinai covenant the prohibition is repeated ((Deuteronomy 12:23, Leviticus 17:10-12)) and finally it's one of the very small set of guidelines the Jerusalem council gave to gentile believers ((Acts 15:29))

the JW people equivocate "eating blood" ((which Biblically is tied to idolatrous worship)) with organ donation and blood transfusion.
i can't explain the reasoning; i don't know the particulars of their logical argument offhand. but that's where it comes from.

in light of that i dunno what they tell themselves when Jesus says anyone who follows Him must eat His flesh and drink His blood lol. i'll ask next time they're at the door. :)

My husband wouldn't be alive today, if the Lord didn't.

He had over 50 pints of blood given to him, and a microvalve from a pig we've posthumously named Porky.

(Now whenever the medical staff talks about his valve, he tells them he weeps a little every time he smells bacon. lol)

ok so he's been there, done that, but does he have the t-shirt ;)

Not to derail the thread, but can people on meds donate blood? Like me, for instance. My blood is full of seizure meds 24/7/365..

no blood actually passes from mother to child in the womb -- the child gets their blood from the father.
that's an important fact to know in order to understand how Romans 5:12 says sin entered through one man, though in Genesis 3 we see that Eve was the one who sinned first, and the significance of the virgin birth of Jesus  -- His blood didn't come from Mary or Joseph

certain meds, no. i can't give you a list from memory but i'm sure you can search for one -- they run down a checklist when you donate, and when you donate plasma for example you may be urine-tested to make sure you're not abusing opiates or certain other things, i presume because that can be transferred through the blood.

so if the Jews had taken that exact same blood with the life if it and injected that blood inside them with needles, this would be ok? it doesnt sound ok to me, it sounds like bending the rules.
there is no mention of health in the passage, no mention of cooking meat. the only thing mentioned is blood and the fact that blood carries life, and that blood full of life is what the Lord did not want inside His people. makes no difference how it gets in there.

there is still blood that mixes from mother to child, its just a small amount.

yes it does, you digestive track and circulatory system are separate, blood eaten and blood infused are completely different.

In the sense of a medical transfusion? Biologically, a human baby has distinct blood from its mother. It grows its own blood; the mother's blood is not pumped through the baby's veins. The placenta allows nutrients to pass through but is a barrier to blood itself. :)

from what i understand certain elements of blood can pass between mother and child in the womb, though not whole blood itself, and under certain circumstances ((like a tear in placenta)) small amounts of one or the other's whole blood can, which can lead to a kind of allergic reaction if their blood types are incompatible.
but in general the blood of the baby is its own blood, not shared/infused by the mother.

I had to take antibiotics recently; the med sheet said that blood donation was not accepted while taking them.

the context would be blood, life, keep it out of your body.

Also, it was said only to ancient Jews,
that would be because most other cultures had turned away from the Most High in those ancient days.

not to us in the New Covenant.
[h=1]Acts 15:19-21[/h] [SUP]19 [/SUP]Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God, [SUP]20 [/SUP]but should write to them to abstain from the things polluted by idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and from blood. [SUP]21 [/SUP]For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.”

the blood in the mother and fetal circulations are separate but in close proximity. As the placenta matures, small capillaries shed cells that mingle with both blood cells of mom and child.
