I would prefer the same thing. I don't mean to sound depressing. But that's just how it is.

Marriage was instituted by God at the beginning of time, when the world was perfect, and it's something that's supposed to bless you. But then mankind sinned, and everything was distorted. That includes marriage. And even marriages between Christians, sadly.

People have the freedom to marry, but they also have the freedom to make bad and selfish decisions that hurt their partner. They can make solemn vows to be faithful, but they can also choose to go back on their word, as if those vows are suddenly meaningless.

It's not right. It's sad. And it should break your heart, if you're a genuine believer.
I completely agree with you on this.

I am not looking for perfect.

I am looking for empathy, maturity, safety, trust.
Not to chime in where I don't belong but going along with @Churchgoer - the person you are describing is Jesus.

I pray you do find healing, comfort and strength during your marriage and if you do divorce to find someone else that the Lord guides you to a man who will genuinely care for you and is completely committed to Jesus and our Faith.

Honestly, I don’t think it is funny. Empathy is God. God is Empathy. And, where is yours?
I do understand where the "humour" is coming from since like Churchgoer I am also an imperfect man but I agree a brother must be gentle with his sisters and that could have been put more gently.

Please forgive him and know that none of us consider your pain laughable. Big hugs and prayers 🙏 🫂

I completely agree with you on this.
A marriage is only as godly as the couple. If one is godly and the other's not, the depressing news is that, usually the husband can convert the wife, but the wife can't convert the husband.

Thank you brother.
Fyi I am a woman.

The reason I think it is funny is often we want the other person to be perfect.
Do we look at ourselves and examine ourselves?
What is Jesus teaching on marriage? Obey that will be the Holy way to go.

As I said before, marriage is about holiness, not about happiness.
Actually a Christian s life is about holiness, not happiness.
Holiness will bring joy, peace in God.

Even in a marriage, God still examine us individually.
We should just make sure ourself is Holy. Then try to help others.
If ourselves fall apart, then how to help others?

Thank you brother.

I am very sorry for not checking first sister, usually I'm pretty good at that.

I completely agree with the sentiment, trust me I have been on both sides of the wanting and wanted but as I am quick to say: I am just a man.

Couldn't agree more, happiness comes directly from a strong relationship with God and thus a prerequisite is holiness and developing our Faith through the power of the Holy Spirit to listen more attentively to the Lord and follow His guidance. His wisdom includes joy and happiness simply because He's such an awesome, loving God. Praise be to His name forever and ever, Amen.

I know what you mean.

I remember a thread here from some time ago where the guy wanted a woman who would rate 8-10, but when he posted a picture of himself, WOAH NELLY! He rated himself a 6. I won't tell you how I rated him, but this much I can say - we didn't agree with each, lol!

@2ndTimeIsTheCharm's recall of this story has me laughing, as I remember that well!!

One of the biggest reasons I'm single is because of what I call Dating Hypocrisy.

I've told the story often of when I was on Christian dating sites -- and one particular guy said in his profile that God made men visual, so he MUST have a beautiful wife. He then specifically wrote that only women who were or had been models, cheerleaders, and gymnasts (still in good form, of course!) should bother writing him -- women who didn't meet this criteria were just wasting his time.

The ironic part was that his photo was of a guy who was at least 50 pounds overweight -- with a very visible double chin.

Now, I know first hand how tough weight problems can be and almost EVERYONE has a little extra padding, especially as we get older.

But what I don't like is when someone DEMANDS certain standards from the other person that they in NO way, shape, or form actually meet themselves.

I was in CC live chat a while ago, and a man there started asking if I exercise -- then wanted to know what my specific exercise routine was. He was especially fixated on wanting me to include swimming in my routine -- when I explained swimming wasn't really my thing, he said that I could just run laps around a shallow pool.

Wow. I sure am glad I am my own person with my own interests, because you can see how much it mattered to him!! 😆

The ironic thing is that if his profile picture was accurate -- he has a very evident beach ball belly.

As I said, I know almost everyone has a little fluff here and there, and it's not the fluff itself that bothers me.

I'm just not into someone demanding that that someone else needs to be slim and trim -- when they themselves look pregnant. All I ask is that you keep the same standard for yourself as you do for a potential partner.

And of course, I don't have a perfect body by any means.

I do what I can, working hard to try to keep myself healthy, and would hope the other person would do the same -- with each of us giving the other the grace to accept that bodies AREN'T perfect -- and will change over time.

I also don't like seeing women demanding that men must be millionaires and making 6 figures a year -- without contributing anything themselves. I realize they want to be stay-at-home moms, but these days, I truly believe women need to be prepared to do some kind of work, whether in or outside the home, to help their husbands with financial burdens. After all, we women are supposed to be helpers.

I have a mom who married my dad when they both had nothing, and they've turned out just fine -- by the grace of God.

My main point here is that I just firmly believe that people should not insist on scoring someone meeting mile-high standards that they themselves don't even come close to meeting.

The other thing I found incredibly ironic is that the picture he shared of his "dream girl" looked like a mix-up between various female Hollywood celebrities.

He said she was an 8-10, but personally, I would have rated her about a 15-20 on a scale of 1-10 (in other words, he, as a man, found her to be "almost" or "right at" the highest rating, where as I found her to be way off the charts, impossibly beautiful.)

What I mean is that what he thought he wanted in a woman was completely realistic to him, I thought was a total unicorn -- something not really lined up with reality.

And I was thinking, "No wonder all of us are single. The opposite gender thinks a 10 is "normal", when we see this as something that is in actually not attainable by almost anyone else!"

This can definitely be true!

I saw a YouTube video once of a very cute married couple where the man was a bodybuilder and his wife was definitely on the heavy side. He said that he had just always preferred women with extra fluff, which was lovely.

Unfortunately, there were a lot of people criticizing his choice.

I certainly understand different preferences! I have them myself!

And God made all of us different for a reason. :)

It's just that for me personally, no, I'm not attracted to men who look 10 weeks pregnant while demanding that I work myself into a frenzy worrying about diets and exercise. I've mentioned before that I've already struggled on and off with disordered eating, and I'd never want to be with someone who pushed me back into that.

And it's not that someone is a little heavier that would be the main issue for me, but rather the expectation that I eat salads and swim laps -- while he sits on the couch eating pizza and Cheetos. 🙄
