Gift can be rejected. The spiritual gifts found in the Gospel have ceased in the lives of those who reject them, for whatever reason including unbelief, but not in the lives of those who received and possess them
.
And, the gifts have not ceased for those who think they are not being used by God to use them, for God does things so that our 'right hand does not know what our left is doing.' Truly, like believing by faith in Him, who died on the cross for us, who was around with God at the beginning of the world, who was and is and is to come; these concepts take faith. I have faith in tongues happening to me someday, I've not seen them happen but gifts God's probably ALREADY worked through me would included 'mercy' and 'peacemaking' and seems like some on here like to say 'revelation,' for things I 've said on c.c.
Not bragging, not boasting, just saying, Christ speaks through me is my hope, my prayer, it is not I who speaks but He who is in me. Granted, it does not always work that way, for we all have 'thorn(s) in our flesh, like Paul had, God removes that sin in His timing, and, sometimes, He keeps that 'thorn' in us so that we stay humble more, AOK
A good book , I think to read is something I started reading that a bible study teacher of mine gave me a couple weeks ago, it's called, 'They Speak In Tongues.' The same author as 'God's Smuggler,' if that helps any. The author is Christian world known well, but I forget his name. Someone with so much knowledge wanted, like 'Can Gumby really swim with the fishes,' like yourself, AOK, that book would be great for you, and, so, yes, I agree with your post, plus, adding the 'unknowing' aspect of His knowing and doing spiritual gifts work through us who are not knowing, unaware of the 'gift' we have entertained, for His glory, and, never forget, by being a 'pure vessel,' there is no doubt God will bless us, here, and, of course, hereafter
