Joe, it's January the 3rd, not 4th... :p

Btw, I see that you've changed your signature...
January 4th in the US IS January 3rd in Singapore.

(Believe that, and I have some prime real estate to sell you just east of Atlantic City. Oh, and since you might not get that, just east of Atlantic City is the Atlantic Ocean. lol)

I always sign my name now.

I didn't used to, but a while back, I felt like God was dealing with me and told me, "If you aren't willing to say it directly to the person's face, then just don't say anything."

Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

Dont want to seem like a creep if I have nothing to say to the thread, yet leave a rep comment for someone... cause that’s just creepy.

Absolutely! I leave my name and the specific reason I repped them. And nah, I don't think you have to "like" the same post, I "like" and give rep for different reasons and nope, that's not creepy at all lol.

It depends on the person and situation with me.

Sometimes Ill post like my username initials, especially if its a CC friend or someone I think highly of. Sometimes I just add something that makes it obvious that its me.

Sometimes Ill leave it anonymous though, ESPECIALLY if its someone that I have noticed publicly thanks people for giving them reps. I think that kinda defeats the whole purpose of the rep system, and I dont like doing such things.
If others want to do so, thats fine, as I am talking about myself and how I feel about such things.

Im not sure how to explain a situational anonymous rep.... but sometimes they feel necessary. I even have times where I leave the little note blank because I dont really know what to say, or just write "good post".

Oh, I have totally used them to make a joke to the person Ive sent them to, or to tell them I found their joke funny : p When telling them I liked their joke, Ill usually sign my name. When making a joke.... I dunno, it depends on the situation.

Isn't repping a person saying it to their face... virtually speaking?

I'm not one of those people who scold rep. It's always a good-thing rep.

I agree, Lynn.

I only use the rep system for encouragement. Sometimes I want to rep but also make a suggestion, and this is when I stop and think.

How would I word it if I were speaking to the person? In that case, I'll PM them instead.

My whole point was that the rep system is often used to say something anonymously that someone might not otherwise say in person.

I sign my name (and this is just my own thing, not speaking for anyone else) as a personal stance against all the times the rep system is used abusively (and I encourage anyone receiving rep with an inappropriate or critical remark to report it immediately, because the mods will know who it was and act accordingly, if necessary.)

Unfortunately, some people use the rep system as a way to slam someone and think they can get away with it, and signing my name is my own way to keep myself in check and express my belief that the rep system should not be abused.

Back when I first joined CC, rep was very rare and the only people you saw people with a high rep number had been here forever and accumulated it through their number of posts and the number of years they had been here. Triple-digit rep points were unheard of.

I have often wondered what would happen if the system was based on how much positive rep we gave others instead of being concerned about what others thought of us. (Not to encourage insincerity or to say that those giving rep now are insincere, but the rep system now feels kind of like a high-scoring video game.)

I leave my name for reputation comments. It seems the polite thing to do.

I usually don't leave my name and if I do it's more because I left a message talking directly to them then I feel they should know who it came from.
