I got that too! Okay that's one less suspect. Whoever that smiley face is must be drowned in orange kitty hugs.
Ok so it’s not me and it’s not you.

I have an inkling though.
Some on here have a smiley face and I see it in his avatar (you have a beautiful smile by the way).

Who is the fantom reaper?

Answers on a postcard please.

You're actually one of those people who don't need to include your name. I know instantly. lol

(Wasn't me. Honest.)

Well here's a cheery example of the rep system hard at work.

I just got a "non-rep" (gray box) with a comment that said, "Go away!"

Maybe the person is joking... Hmm.

But just in case this person does this to other people, I'm going to let a mod know.

That's terrible ;(

I think the only way to do that is to create a new account, use that account (with 0 rep) to be able to send a grey rep. (EDIT: not sure if you could do that if your rep is disabled though).

And I know only one person who would go that far ;(

I may be wrong though, this is just a gut feeling.

I'm trying to remember... I had a similar thing happen a while ago and was told that it was found that the sender had two accounts--one with which they regularly participated on the site, and another account that was 3 years old, had no rep. and was used ONLY to send that one anonymous critical comment.

Well... I guess if they find it worth all the trouble...

I only wish they would sign their names.

I mean, c'mon, after all that hard work, everyone deserves to know who they are. :)

I don't understand what a grey rep is.

I don't understand what a grey rep is.
When you get a rep comment, it usually has a green box (if the person has rep points to give.)

If the person has 0 rep points, a gray box will appear next to the comment instead.

Back when I first started, rep was categorized into green, gray, and red for negative comments (I can't remember if the red took points away?) Abi might remember this because she's been here even longer than I have.

I can't say for sure, but I would guess that they changed the system because far too many people were taking full advantage of the chance to send anonymous, hateful comments (I knew plenty of people at the time who were some of the unfortunate victims.)

Give credit where credit is due

Maybe it's the same person as last time? They should be banned >.<

It doesn't add to your rep point, but it lets you send a rep comment anonymously. This can be done by creating a new account (which is against the rules) because that has no rep power yet and using that to send a rep comment.

"Anonymous" or not, the mods can figure out who it is, so this is why I always tell people to let them know if someone takes advantage of the system like this.

I wonder if the person has noticed that I've been here since 2009... and they haven't scared me off yet! :p

After all, I gotta hit that 10-year anniversary. ;)

I didn't either but now I know. All of my recent reps have green boxes. I never really noticed the green box before so I can't really say whether or not I have ever received a rep with a grey box. Something to look for.

If you really want to know who sent an anonymous rep (not the nasty grey box kind), it is quite possible to narrow down the field of possibilities by tracking your points total. That number goes up by the reputation power of whomever gave you the rep :) So Abi, if you give someone an anonymous rep right now, their points total will increase by 109 points. Knowing the points total increased by 109 means that it could only have been given by someone with that rep power. You also know that certain people are more inclined to give you reps than others, and the same person may give a like at the same time, which makes it very easy to figure out.

Not leaving your name is perfectly fine.

It's when people use the "cover" of the system to leave hate notes is when it becomes a problem.

My little "love note" was attached to a post in Enow's "Fat" thread in which I had tried to be humorous, so I'm guessing it's from one of the BDF regulars who believes that God never laughs.

(Another poster said she tried to make a joke in the BDF once, and was sent a PM that chewed her out and said, "God doesn't have a sense of humor!")

Great detective work on solving the rep mystery. :)

I just wanted to clarify that if someone leaves their name with a rep comment, I make every effort to thank them personally, but if a person wants to make a comment anonymously, it's no problem.

I didn't want people to think I'm going to publicly announce every rep or comment. :D

However, anonymous bullying is something I take very seriously and will face head-on every time, and I encourage anyone else who encounters this to do the same, or at the very least, take a screenshot as proof, and let a mod know.
