    Understanding God’s election

Yes, I had the same problem for quite some time. A fix for it was disseminated several months ago which worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I am unable to find the instructions for it now, but if you contact the administrators, I'm sure, they'll be able to help you. In the meantime, I'll keep...

[Rom 5:15 KJV] 15 But not as the offence, so also [is] the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, [which is] by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. [Rom 5:15 ESV] 15 But the free gift is not like the trespass...

[Jhn 12:37, 39-40 KJV] 37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: ... 39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, 40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with [their] eyes, nor...

Yes, its huge and foundational to the whole gospel, yet apparently, invisible to them.

    Understanding God’s election

Seems to me that @Rufus was actually quoting a verse in that post, not manufacturing a parable.

    Understanding God’s election

Yes, they are apart - completely apart - and that is why God refers to them to as the new heavens and new earth - because they are unlike this world in every sense - apart, regarding their spiritual doctrine and truth amongst other things. The spiritual - the perfect -cannot be perceived, taught...

    Understanding God’s election

"God designed" parables, yes, and they part of scripture. But those weren't what I was referring to; I was referring to YOUR parables - parables that you constructed - non-biblical, humanistic parables based purely upon earthly things of your construct for demonstrating spiritual principles. I...

Do either of those words make it not fully a gift? Nope, they don't.

    Understanding God’s election

There you go again comparing the earthly with the spiritual. The two aren't comparable - that is why we are told to compare spiritual with spiritual. When, and if, you are able to look from that level, you will be better able to understand spiritual doctrine and meaning. Until then, you will be...

The "another text" substantiates 6:29. But okay, whatever.

    Understanding God’s election

In that case salvation really isn't a gift and is dependent upon the actions of those to be saved to effectuate it, which would place it at odds with what the verse itself states - it can't be both a gift and not a gift at the same time.

    Understanding God’s election

    Not sure what you mean by that. As far as I can see - unless you're reading into them an assumption - within that context, they are clear and stand on their own. [Phl 1:29 KJV] 29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

    Understanding God’s election

I don't believe that possible. if it is a gift of God "by grace", "through faith", then for it to truly be a gift as we are told it is, no part of it could be required to be satisfied by man, and must be solely satisfied by God, otherwise, simply, it wouldn't be a gift, placing the verse in...

    Understanding God’s election

The "ye" pertains to the "saved"; the "faith" to the gift; hence the "and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God". If the gift was "not of yourselves" but was the "gift of God", then it was impossible for the faith to have been theirs. Hope that makes sense - I didn't state it too well...

    Understanding God’s election

Yeah, actually I've heard that rational before, but I don't think the verses you mention apply to 6:29. 6:28 logically begins a new discussion between them by asking Jesus to know the works of God. Jesus's reply, in 6:29, in effect, is saying there is no work they can do - that it all God's work.

    Understanding God’s election

That is a different subject than Eph 2:8. The faith in view in Eph 1:15 is the faith given to those saved/born again by God - recall John 6:29 - but that is not the faith that brings salvation but is from salvation: Christ's faith saves; our faith in Christ comes from God as His gift to us. All...
