It will be lousy for me if my family celebrate my birthday on the day Stalin was born because they agree with the cold war.
Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
Rom
14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
If the Saturnalia is observed on winter solstice, it would be the 21st or the 22nd of December, not that it makes any difference in commemorating our blessed Lord's birth.
What is the exact date of Christ's birth if you please?
If you cannot say with reason and exactitude this entire thread, like in years past, is moot.
also, oddly enough, in the KJV, as far as I can tell, there are only two people mentioned who celebrated the anniversary of their birth:
Pharaoh
King Herod
when people lift a passage, from an epistle, out of context, and use if for a proof text, with no supporting Scripture, it is just wrong.
Listen. Think.
God used a whole chapter in Leviticus to define HIS Holy Days.
Do you really think He would allow Paul to wipe that out with a letter written to a group of believers in Rome?
Not a chance.
People WANT to do the Dec25 ritual. They will fight to keep it. It is just not Biblical, and in my opinion, not acceptable.
First you tell me what is in my heart and mind, and now you tell me I am too stupid to know whan I am referring to a quote from the Holy Scriptures in context? This is going bbeyond the pain young man.
First, I have read the Word including the cited passages several dozen times, perhaps over a hundred times, and I have always understood the quoted passage perfectly.
Do not mislead others, innocent of yet knowing the quoted scrupture, with legalistic phrases and accusations of not knowing the context of the quoted passage.
Please, learn the quoted passages and use them in context as do I.
Rom 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
that may be a bit dramatic for what I said.
I am glad you have read the Scriptures, but clearly we don't agree.
Paul's letter is a letter. We don't know the whole story.
In my opinion, he is referring to which days are best for fasting. Some of the Jewish leaders taught that it is best to fast on Monday and Thursday. Others said it didn't matter which day you fast. This is what I believe Paul is talking about - food.
With that said, I stand by what I posted.
If God declares certain days to be holy, Paul can't wipe that out with a letter.
Paul isn't doing any such thing. This is what our easy grace doctrine has tried to teach us, but it is not true.
God celebrated Christ's birth in some pretty spectacular ways.

Hypothetically, what if we were able to find out the exact date of Jesus' birth? (beyond a reasonable doubt) Would people then move the celebration to that different day? Thoughts?
Imagine if your spouse celebrated your birthday on their ex-girl/boyfriend's birthday, and you told them it made you feel terrible, and they laughed and said, what does it matter? Yet without fail, year after year, they kept on doing it? Messiah said regarding tradition and doing the Father's will~you cannot do both.
I've no right to judge anybody who does christmas, and I don't. I think we're all decieved in some way. Only He can open eyes and ears, and I reckon it's all in His hands. I pray for us all, that we be not decieved.
Why are songs such sang for the celebration in spirit and truth?
God rest ye merry gentlemen
Let nothing ye dismay.
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born upon this day.
To save the world from sin and strife
And lead us on our way.
Oh tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy,
Oh tidings of comfort and joy.
Does this sound pagan? Listen tot he words of the true carols giving all glory to Jesus Christ. Stop looking for baby snakes in doves' nests.
Something once dedicated to a false god now glorifies the true God. That alone is reason to celebrate.
Sadly though, this isn't a Scriptural teaching, nor is there any evidence of God ever doing this. In fact, God has extremely strict standards of what to do when encountering pagan gods and worship of them.
Paul's writings are Holy Scripture. If they SEEM to conflict with OT passages (also Holy Scripture) then we have not fully understood the relative scope and meaning of both. Such apparent conflicts, and their careful resolution, are maybe the best way of learning biblical truth.

I have not read either book but I do believe that it is very likely that Jesus was born during one of the late summer or early fall festivals, which are God's timetable. This looks like an interesting page: Chapter 5: The Time of Jesus' Birthre: Christ's true date of birth
A few months ago I would have wagered Sep 11, 3 BC, following Larsen's Star of Bethlehem theory. I've since found a far more compelling case for another date - August 12 in 5 BC (this is the Hebrew Tisha b'Av). This is presented in a new book "Breaking Daniel's Seal". Has anyone else on this board read it, and if so, what do you think?
From my earliest memory I have commemorated the birth of our Savior on December 25. Never have I recognized anything pagan associated with that day. It could be on July 4th and it would have nothing to do with the Declaration of Independence.
Days that are special for me may not be for you, and the same holds true for days for you, but as we are taught, as long as they are observed with a clear conscience in the sight of Yahweh (God) no man may fault another in honesty.
You want to think Saturnalia, that is your weak faith. I never recognize anything except a day to honor teh physical birth of Jesus Christ...it could be any date on a calendar.
