This is so simply stated in scripture, and the reason why it's this way, that I can't even believe this is even an issue.
Why are some women so intent on changing the words of the Bible to mean what they want it to mean? I think Peter gives us a glimpse of that reason in 1 Peter 3...fear of submission. By nature I think it's a particular problem for women to submit easily to a man.
"... being submissive to their own husbands; 6just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear."-1 Peter 3:5-6
It's just something that women in particular have a hard time dealing with. We all cringe at having to submit to authority, but it seems women have a harder time dealing with it than us men. Being afraid to submit is a better reason than being too proud to submit.

Jehovah used Deborah to rebuke Israel. God used a woman because no man would lead. Barak would not go unless Deborah went with him.
I guess in that respect many churches today are like Israel in the time of Deborah. Evil and ready to be delivered into the hands of kings of other religions.

Barak refused to go into battle without Deborah accomanying him. It turned out the wife oftook all of Barak's glory for winning the battle in having killed the head of the enmy by driving a tent peg through his temple as he slept.

It depends what you classify as "authority" Ralphy. My husband in my home? OK. The Pastor of my Church? Ok. My Boss at work? Ok.
Any loony fruitcake who calls himself a Christian and expects me to accept some un-biblical, whacked-out theory of his just because he is a male. No way. I'm challenging those kinds of things. We can't just accept any Tom, Dick & Harry with a male appendage as a person in "authority"

Thankfully, no one is pushing that kind of an argument on either side of the fence. I think that's pretty well understood.
The man in traffic ahead of you, or behind you in the grocery checkout line does not have God ordained authority over you.....unless he's your husband or your pastor. And even then it's only in a way that is fitting in the Lord.
