Gen 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
Gen 3:17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Gen 3:18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
Gen 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

This is Adam and Eve's curse, which still applies today, women still have painful labor, and people work the land for food, although some buy food from other people that till the ground, with money they earned from their job,but some people have inherited money, and buy food from money not labored for,but we still are going to pay for it one way or another, but Adam and Eve only has to dress the garden, and food was provided for them,in which the provision of food would come at a more physical cost, for even the person that inherited money had to get his butt up,and get to the legal office when his fatcat butt wanted to sleep in.

Other than that the curse of sin,but we confess Jesus, are led of the Spirit, and beat that curse, and are new creatures.

I do not see any other curse, and I do not believe in witchcraft, and hexes, and jinxes,or those type of curses,so we cannot be cursed there, although we might be cursed at by some people.
When i first read some of the responses, i thought to reply to one of demi's and grace's... but i am using mpaper's post instead for it has Gen.3.16-17 where i have highlighted some parts. As far as i remember, the word sorrow in both verses is originally the heb. etsev, which means toil or hard work. More recent translations have further 'changed' some meanings, but basically, i understand they were meant to work or toil in bringing forth the fruit of the womb and of the earth...not necessarily in pain.

For the older cc members, some might remember a thread on Bible gems started by seoul where i have shared some things learned from a woman who studied and experienced birth w/o pain. Married to a hebrew scholar i think, she has helped many women thru the yrs experience this 'hard work'= labor mentioned in the verses, w/o really going thru pain...which many other peoples have also experienced i must say, from other non-Christian cultures although they did not probably know abt. Gen. 3. I also understand the Lord cursed the ground, not adam nor eve... altho the word curse was used in Deut., other, as we know. Got to cut this, ok.

The only curse I think women have is hormones:rolleyes:

Ha ha ha. But thanks to those hormones, women are womanly. We could say Woman is another masterpiece by God! Remember the great artist's reply when asked what would be his greatest masterpiece? He would say " the next" each time. We all know woman was made after man.

okay...I just read this in another forum...family forum and it occurs to me that people believe this and there are plenty of books out there that teach this

BUT...does the Bible teach this?

are women walking around under a curse, forever living under a burden that really, no one can bear?

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
II Corinthians 5:17

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

I guess the question is: are we still cursed as Adam and Eve, or are we new creatures in Christ and these curses are broken?

I'm wondering how many people believe this

wow, the thread is 1 day old and already way over a hundred posts!

Something that may be of interest,

As I read it, in Gen 3 God doesn't curse Adam and Eve, He curses the snake and the ground (I think the curse on the ground is later removed).

Hi LaurenTM, read genesis chapter 3. 14-19
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life: 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you. 17 And unto Adam he said, Because you have listened unto the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to you; and you shall eat the plants of the field; 19 In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread, till you return unto the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust you are, and unto dust shall you return.

The curse of sin affected all of creation. The whole Bible attests to this truth.

Yes. The curse on the ground is removed after the Great Flood of Noah's time.

[SUP]21 [/SUP]And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.

Wow! Didn't know that. Thanks for sharing that and connecting the dots (verses).

I can agree with that.

it would mean, too, that men are under the same 'amount' of curse as women, imo

so I am reposting my summation of what I believe again here, because this thread got expansive pretty quickly and it becomes noticeable that some did not get to read my response

I included it with the post from Yahshua because he included the original verses with their proper meaning...some other posters have also done this so forgive me if I did not make note of it...but you know who you are :)

some other interesting observations have been brought up that I would like to have a closer look at...but they will have to wait

thanks everyone for keeping this thread (mostly) civil...we all benefit from that!

here it is:

Re: Are women under a curse?

Genesis 3:16

אֶל meaning "against" as the short definition.

Translated in scripture as:

- Against (162 times)
- Over (23 times)
- [facing] Toward (75 times)
- Before (11 times)

So we have something like..."and your desire will be {set against} your husband, and [yet] he shall rule over you." In other words, she'll oppose him from then on and yet he'll lead. This makes better sense and also fit's the crime since Eve led Adam instead of he leading her. It also pretty much explains why today...{mumbles quietly}...but thank God we're all new creatures in Christ. :D

My response to this thread....answer to my op

so I'm going to sum up what I believe scripture is saying under this post cause I think it describes the state of much of the world and sadly even Christian marriages

I think it is plain that certain curses are still in effect...for example, I think of that weed curse whenever I have to weed yet again...and the sweat of the brow? well that certainly still goes on...even 9 to 5...actually I think that timetable grinds down the soul but that may just be me

women...well...even being one...you see women manipulating all over the place but in a handy about face, men do the same but some go straight to intimidation...just cut the corners please...and some believers teach that a woman should just well...accept that men make the world go round

but they don't

so the salvation for the mess we are in is Jesus. Always Jesus!

neither me nor my husband like to be told what to do...so you can imagine the scene if neither of us were believers

divorce or death would be imminent

so that is the solution then. put Jesus first...not yourself...in putting Him first, in resting IN Him, in believing (having faith) that He is able and He is all that we are not but all that we are IN Him, allows us to go beyond ourselves

we will find that a marriage can indeed be cursed if the participants are outside of that central theme...in ALL your ways acknowledge Him!

salvation is now, salvation is ongoing and salvation is future

so only with Jesus are we no longer cursed...He became that accursed being without God for that moment on the cross when He cried out to His Father and asked why He had turned His face away

God does not turn His face away from us when He sees Jesus...our perfect and eternal High Priest

we have new life ... there is so much to that truth but as we think about ourselves, so we act, so we are...as Proverbs tells us
