Years ago the lady who used to cut my hair mentioned how thin my hair was getting and she suggested coal tar shampoo. It really works! I haven't used it since but my hair is fine. She said it was probably from the alcohol in the hairspray and gel I was using. Nowadays they use a lot less alcohol in hair products.

Yeah bring back coal tar products. ;)

*Lynx hiccups and wanders off unsteadily to find some hair gel....

I didn't know they had alcohol in them. Did people ever drink them?

I can just see it now, in the hospital. "Oh, that patient again. How many times have I told you, hairspray is for HAIR!"

I'm pretty sure most don't have alcohol anymore because in the early 2000's or late 90's they all started putting "Does not contain alcohol" in big words on the front of their products. The hairsprays still contain some but not as much as before.

I don't know if CA is different because of the tougher environmental regulations out there, but almost any hairspray you pick up has alcohol, especially if it's an aerosol. If you read the ingredients, "Alcohol denat" or "SD Alcohol" will be one of the top ingredients (it's often the first ingredient). I have two different kinds of hairspray in my bathroom right now and they both list alcohol as the first ingredient. (No, I'm don't use them at once. One is almost gone so the second bottle is just a replacement.)

Ingredients on grooming products are listed in descending according to the percentage of their make up within the solution. In other words, the first ingredient is what they use the most of in the product, and the last ingredient is what they use the least of. (If you look at many products that claim to contain an uber-special ingredient, it's usually towards the very end of the list because they actually use very little of it.)

The only non-alcohol hairspray I can find out here is by Loreal, and it's pretty expensive (about $9), and doesn't work for my hair at all. It acts more like a spray gel. I prefer other kinds (and they're usually less than half that price.)

Gels and styling aids that don't contain alcohol are a little easier to find, but you really have to read the ingredients. Usually, if you're after mega-hold or something that will hold an extreme style, it's going to contain alcohol.

(I'm just mentioning all of this because the last year or so I've been trying to switch to alcohol-free products, but have found it impossible to do with certain things like hairspray.)

I'm sorry, this is going rather far afield of the original topic of pores. But I just couldn't pass that one up.

I can honestly say, the less a woman cares about these meaningless things, the more I find myself attracted to them.

Hairy arm pits and legs were the norm, no fancy cosmetics just good old soap
and water. No fancy soap either just the glycerine type which took lots
of soaking to get a lather.
I actually like it when a girl has arm hair.
I think its cute : p

This is very cool, YB.

I'm just curious, when you say arm hair... do you mean hair above the arms, or not shaving her arm pits? (I've known women who are very self-conscious about their arm hair--and shave their entire arms.)

I meant like the forearm, the lower part of the arm connected to the wrist and hands. I dont see why a little hair there is a big deal, and I actually like it : p

And I dont care about hair in the arm pits : p Though I actually sometimes shave mine too, cuz sometimes I worry about people seeing it through my tshirt, so I can understand if a girl did that too.

This brings up an interesting question...why do women have to shave their legs? I mean I know society pushes for it as being "attractive or what not" but I never got that....God made hair for insulation, why would women shave their legs especially in cold/winter? Wouldn't you be cold? I know I like a beard during cold to keep my face warm....but serious question who started the shave legs thing for women????

Besides the appeal of smooth skin, I think theres also like a taboo with body hair that society has created. Like having body hair is made to look unkempt and unclean, I often let myself feel like Im dirty if too much body hair shows on me, that I even sometimes shave the top part of my chest to keep chest hair from poking out from the neck of my shirt.

I agree, I dont care about hair on a girls leg at all : p But the world definitely pushes them to believe they need to remove it.

I think it's really fascinating to see what different people (and cultures) think is beautiful or acceptable... because others might consider it something hideous that needs to be fixed in order to be socially acceptable.

And there are things that people think everyone notices... but, as proven here, most people don't pay attention to (or, in some cases, don't even know what it is.)

Dan, you have a very frequent habit of coming into threads and writing extremely risque posts.

I remember several of your posts that seemed to imply a penchant for prostitutes as well.

On the flip side, I've also seen you post some very "spiritual-sounding" things, too.

So which one are you, and what's behind all of this?

Is this some kind of sexually induced strain of Tourette's Syndrome that the rest of of don't know about?
I simply answered the question completely honestly... Any man who says that a woman's pores are the first thing he notices, or the most important thing he notices, is in all probability, lying.. I might ask you; When you notice a handsome man, is it the size of his pores that catch your eye? Be honest, there's nothing risque about the truth. I guarantee you that if you find a bunch of men on the street who all watch a beautiful woman walk by in short shorts, not one of them will respond with a "nice pores" comment. :)

My post was meant to be semi-amusing, but I guess not everyone gets my sometimes crude brand of sarcastic humor.

Don't listen to that nonsense. They want your money and most men prefer the natural look. Throw all that stuff away, buy soap for 2 euro and do as the Dutch. It's cheap and no effort whatsoever.

I have to agree. Like in this picture... That gal looks better without the makeup.

"Getting" it isn't a problem. There was just no need for it.

I understand what you're saying. But of one of the major goals in our walk as a Christian is to change our "honest truth" into what God would want it to be, not chiming right in and reinforcing what's "normal" for the rest of the world.

Maybe it's just because I'm a girl, but the first thing I notice about men tends to be his hair or head if he doesn't have any, his eyes, and whether or not he has any manners.

That may be true for some but not all, I don't "dissect" a woman I meet like that...I mostly notice her facial expressions and personality/behavior when I either meet someone or see them across the street for example....imagine if a person was married or had a significant other and the other person was constantly dissecting the opposite sex they randomly meet in the world....that would destroy that relationship b/c that spouse would have to always be fearing that their other is leering at the opposite gender and may break up with them because they are not good enough anymore...to the dissector....

Women are like a puzzle....if you only look at one piece you miss the whole picture....I'd rather see the complete person rather then only check out their "attributes", by doing that i'm limiting my relationship with them and also sowing seeds for potentially ungodly thoughts which can lead to ungodly actions...

...Im honestly not attracted to those things being talked about atm : /

There are things that I can like about a girl, though. I often look at her hair first as well (I actually like girls with short hair styles : p) and her style as well. And I dont mean like fancy flashy clothes, but more like how she presents herself. Colorful tshirts and jeans and sneakers are always cool.
