A more correct rending of this ayah actually plainly states that the Trinity is not “three”, but instead, it is “one”, and then proceeds to list out Father, Son, and Spirit…

Ya ahla alkitabi la taghloo fee deenikum wala taqooloo AAala Allahi illa alhaqqa innama almaseehu AAeesa ibnu maryama rasoolu Allahi wakalimatuhu alqaha ila maryama waroohun minhu faaminoo biAllahi warusulihi wala taqooloo thalathatun intahoo khayran lakum innama Allahu ilahun wahidun subhanahu an yakoonalahu waladun lahu ma fee alssamawati wama fee al-ardi wakafa biAllahi wakeelan

4.171 You The Book's family, certainly do not go beyond the limits in your faith, and they do not say on “allah” except The Truth (is) only the Messiah Jesus, Mary's son, “allah’s” messenger, and his Word, cast forth to her, Mary, and Spirit from him; so believe on account of “allah”, and His messengers, and they do not say: "Three." Refrain (it is) agreeable certainly your only “allah” one god glory be to him, that He has certainly been his Son,truly His what is in the heavens and what is in the earth and He sufficed on account of “allah”, a witness.

Observe that this ayah is directed at ‘The Book’s family’ (ahla alkitabi) – which refers to the followers of the Holy Bible; i.e. Christians.

For the Muslim, it then gives instruction as to what the correct interpretation of the Holy Bible needs to be regarding (among numerous things), the concept of the Trinity.

In this classic Islamic one-hit-wonder we are told not to refer to the one “allah” as “Three”, as even his messengers do not say “Three” - because he is not the result of counted things (thalathatun)….and yet, in the very ayah itself it lists-out directly, Father, Son, & Spirit.

This is a classic Koranic example in which the authors display their understanding of the Biblical concept of the Holy Trinity, and give the example of what it is not by the usage of the word “Three”…and what it is, by the example of “one”.

Not one translation site says what you say it says. Why is that? Mine was from an Islamic site.

That the Koran is an early Christian work is independently supported by the following book:

The Hidden Origins of Islam: New Research into Its Early History

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1591026342/internetinfidels

Book description:

“Based on the premise that reliable history can only be written on the basis of sources that are contemporary with the events described, the contributors to this in-depth investigation present research that reveals the obscure origins of Islam in a completely new light. As the authors meticulously show, the name "Muhammad" first appears on coins in Syria bearing Christian iconography. In this context the name is used as an honorific meaning "revered" or "praiseworthy" and can only refer to Jesus Christ, as Christianity was the predominant religion of the area at this time. This same reference exists in the building inscription of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, built by the caliph `Abd al-Malik.

The implication of these and other findings here presented is that the early Arab rulers adhered to a sect of Christianity. Indeed, evidence from the Koran, finalized at a much later time, shows that its central theological tenets were influenced by a pre-Nicean, Syrian Christianity
. Linguistic analysis also indicates that Aramaic, the common language throughout the
Near East for many centuries and the language of Syrian Christianity, significantly influenced the Arabic script and vocabulary used in the Koran. Finally, it was not until the end of the eighth and ninth centuries that Islam formed as a separate religion, and the Koran underwent a period of historical development of at least 200 years.”

Why don't the Rabbis of today point to what Jesus says? Same reasoning here. It is called a rejection of Jesus.

Karl-Heinz Ohlig (born 15 September 1938 in Koblenz) is a German professor of Religious Studies and the History of Christianity at the University of Saarland, Germany.
He is the co-editor with Gerd Rudiger Puin of the book Die dunklen Anfänge. Neue Forschungen zur Entstehung und frühen Geschichte des Islam ["The Hidden Origins of Islam: New Research Into Its Early History" (Hans Schiller Verlag, 2005/Prometheus Books 2008)], which argues that Islam was not originally conceived as a distinct religion.
Ohlig and Puin's thesis propounds that according to the evidence of Arab coinage, and the inscription in the Dome of the Rock in the late 7th century, with the letters MHMT and the term Muhammad meaning "the revered" or "the praiseworthy" and the Dome's bearing Christian symbols such as crosses, it suggests that the term Muhammad was a Christian honorific title referring to Jesus, as in the hymn of the mass ("praise be to he that comes...")[SUP][1][/SUP]

You don't have any credibility.

Do you believe the quran is the inspired word of God?

Also Im pretty sure the quran says its blasphemous to say that God had a son. Chapter 9 verse 30 does deny that their god allah had a son.

Your right. Also the well known statement in Islam is ''There is no God but Allah and Mohamed is his Prophet' You cant get any plainer than that!!

If one believes Elah (God) would not have a Son, in this case His Only Begotten, then one must also comply with the idea that He will not adopt any of His creatures as His Children.

What a dismal diabolical belief.

God so loved the world, He gave His only Begotten Son to die for the sins of the world. Anyone who cannot believe this, cannot believe the Love that is God, and he is in total darkness, lost.

There are several forms of lying to non-believers that are permitted
under certain circumstances, the best known being
taqiyya
.

great website!

looking at that page, it makes sense to me to read stuff written by

muslims,

ex-muslims,

those who never were muslim... thereby using several sources.

Now this i could verify in their book. I can not surely accept anything said but i can just listen to their explanation and verify the truth muself

verifying the truth for yourself is a great idea!

I think part of that verifying is checking independent sources (or the closest you can find to independent).

Show us ONE islamic site that provides exegetical reasoning for its rendering.

Good luck...

The Islamic faith with it's Koran has already been proven completely opposed to Christianity on this thread many times.

It certainly does not take much research to find that out. I wonder how many
people are still ignorantly going around calling Islam a religion of peace.

I'd certainly agree that some muslims (possibly most) are not in favor of using violence to promote islam. at the same time, I haven't heard any muslims condemning it... there probably are some somewhere...

years ago, when I heard of protestant/catholic violence in ireland, I happily said that they weren't promoting christian values.

I haven't heard any Muslims condemning Islamic violence either.

The issue is not about Muslims. The issue is about the Islamic faith. Some of them might not know the Koran very well, but that is irrelevant. The issue is about the Islamic faith itself.

True, but they will tell you they worship the same god, and that they believe in Jesus Christ, that He was the Messiah.

Right, same as JW and Mormons will do,but they know better. They are trying to fool you.
