Since you guys asked....
This was my plate of 6 slugs. You hold the shell with the pair of clamps (on the right side of the plate) and use the crude fork-like tool to take out the slug and eat it.
Edit: I had this when I visited Paris last February. It is a traditional French delicacy called "Escargot" (pronounced: es-cargo).
The 6th slug was actually a different dish. It was served as a sandwich between two tiny loaves of bread, coated with pesto sauce and butter. That is why you only see 5 shells on my plate.
