Today I realised where the legalists go wrong.
Christ is removed from a personal relationship of love into a court room.
The sin debt is there, and is dealt with. It is remote and not involved with the individual.
The sin is everything that causes harm throughout the life of the believer.
But this is just guilt appeasement, while leaving a sinner still sinning.
The law is seen as only a means to identify failure and sin, not as the guide to what a
healthy relationship with God looks like.
In all good relationships there is understanding on both sides. It takes time to develop
to grow and to be acknowledged.
Christ and the cross is there to establish the intimate communion with our souls, to
show us Gods intension and embrace us in both forgiveness, love and identity.
But this only works when it is personal, open hearted, with honesty, vulnerability and
a proper response to evil and the damage we personally have done. It is not a court
room far off, it is in the locked room, alone with God, and it is where loneliness and hurt
is transformed into praise, love and acceptance.
And this shows to others because people start reaching out from within to share and
touch the heart of others, to bring that healing and love which Christ brought them.
The law says there is problem, it is the cross and love in an open heart that brings
the life. The old man of the lusts of the flesh driven by pain and loneliness, are now
gone, replaced with love and appreciation of being saved by the King of Kings.
Now if this has never happened to you, ofcourse all that makes sense is the law
is just about condemnation and failure and accepting it. But this is not the gospel,
that is only the asking the question, will you open up your heart to Christ?
It is this opening and calling to Christ that brings new life, salvation, love, is the
beginning of the Kingdom in ones soul.
